Hi

Unfortunately nobody on here can give medical advice only personal experience and information picked up along the way.

It is possible that you have fatty liver and this can usually be reversed in the early stages through lifestyle changes. Your fibroscan results suggest to me that you either have little or no fibrosis which a good sign.

You need to speak to the doctor who arranged for the tests as they have your full medical records and can explain the results properly.

Hey Kenjonee,

Your fibroscan number is awesome, I had liver damage a year ago from medication. My doctor in the U.S Army had me on so much medication it was unbelievable. 6 months after I had a pretty severe liver injury I had a fibroscan of 4.8kpa and was told that was a good number from my hep. I trust him more than any other doctor as I have been to 5 different heps when I got sick. You can still have fatty liver and a low KPA (fibrosis score). Did your fibroscan offer a CAP score? My CAP was 170, which is really good, I think around 250 is when they start considering fatty liver, 300 is definite. CAP measures hepatic steatosis (liver fat); good news is your KPA is so low that the fatty liver hasn't progressed to fibrosis. Exercise, keep a good diet, be wary of sugar, carbs ect. Fatty liver can turn into fibrosis and then cirrhosis down the road, but you are far from that. You can get rid of the fatty liver all together with proper diet, exercise and refraining form drinking large amounts of alcohol. Although, it is best to stay away from all poisons. Blood tests normal also a good sign.

Thank you all for the reply!! Much appreciated. Not sure what CAP number is. They gave me the 3.7 number and said it was good since it was lower than 7. They also measured something in %. Mine was around 48% which higher than 30%. Not sure what it is. But I will ask them again. Thanks!!

The % is probably the percentage of how accurate the scans were. 48% is pretty low and I would bring that up to your doctor honestly. Still nothing to worry about 3.7 is great, I hope to see my next scan in November closer to a lower 4. CAP would be just like KPA, a finite number. The newer machines offer you a CAP score. I would want a higher percentage of accuracy on the fibroscan, given your ultrasound results, that will be dependent on what your doctor thinks. Normally an ultrasound doesn't pick up minimal steatosis. For an ultrasound to pick it up, it has to be a decent amount. However, fibroscan contradicts your ultrasound with a 3.7KPA. Hepatic Steatosis will impact your KPA score as-well as the wave doesn't penetrate the liver tissue as-well. I have been doing this for over a year and have worked in the medical field for a while. I would trust the fibroscan over an ultrasound. We had another individual with hep B have cirrhosis come up on an ultrasound, biopsy and fibroscan showed no cirrhosis, actually F0. Good labs and the fibroscan is icing on the cake here. I would live my live as if I did have a fatty liver to be on the safe side. Plus, it is good practice for longevity.

Thanks again for the insight! Cannot agree more about living on the safe side.
