Is it a death sentence?

I have nafld and my liver isn't metabolizing my medication, 3 weeks ago I was rushed into hospital because I was unconscious and had a gcs of 5, I woke up 2 days later. I'm home now,but I'm so scared to go to sleep in case I don't wake up again, I'm 55 years old and I have never been a drinker, I just feel cheated. I don't know how long I have left, but I'm too ill to have a transplant and nobody seems to be telling me anything, my doctor told me to just enjoy making memories with my grandchildren. Sorry for the rant, I just needed to get it off my chest.

I know you say you have NAFLD but has this perhaps progressed to cirrhosis? Could your unconciousness spell have been down to hepatic encephalopathy? Are you being treated with Lactulose (to ensure you remove toxins from your body via defaecatoin) and Rifaximin (an antibiotic which also deals with toxin build up). Perhaps a prescription of these latter two medications would ease symptoms from toxin build up.

Hi hun, i am so sorry to read your post. I dont know the answer to your question, but def have fun with you chikdren and grandchildren. I didnt know my hubby was dying - he died a few days after he left hospitaland even today his consultants say he was not dying when he left hospital - we didnt do anything to buikd memories, i left him sleeping mostly because his ward had screamers on it so he slept little whilst in hospital. If i had my time again I would have told him how much i loved him and held him close. Bless you I do hope you recover, stay positive xxx

Hi Chrissy,

Have you got any follow up after being discharged from hospital?

As Katie has posted below, it may be that your condition is changing and its very important that you see your doctor and ask for more information about your current liver function and what they think may be happening.

Your GP has a duty of care to look after you and monitor your condition, they can also liase with your liver specialist.

Can you arrange an appointment this week and maybe take someone with you who can write things down for you so you don't forget?

You are not alone, there are many wonderful people who can support you on the forum but it is very important to get the specific information about your own condition from your own doctors,

Take care,

Warm wishes,

Rebecca
