After informed advice guys.

Hello everyone, I've been scouring the net for weeks about palmar erythema and every article rings the death knell about its appearance in regards to the state of your liver. The question I want to ask is would you just have palmar erythema without showing other significant symptoms? All the online articles point to end stage cirrhosis when PE appears, but it surely must occur in early stages of liver disorder too? In your experiences, what stage of your condition did it appear, and were you showing any other symptoms at the same time? Thanks in advance for your advice. AJ

hi

the most reliable source of information I'm aware of is patient.info/doctor/palmar-... which highlights that many people can get PE but it is common in some liver conditions and it wouldn't always only be seen in late stage cirrhosis

as always with anything like this I would advise you to discuss it with your liver team / hepatologist if you are already referred to them or if not see your GP

good luck and best wishes

Andrew

I think it used to be mentioned in older literature about PBC (primary biliary cholangisits - previously cirrhosis). It doesn't get mentioned now, and a lot of the info on line is out-of-date and not to be trusted.

If you already have a liver condition, I think the main things is to talk to your hepatologist. If you don't yet have a diagnosis, but are worried about something, then see your GP and discuss it. I'm sure this doesn't crop up that much in most current info/literature.

Take care.

Well having researched, I don't have this condition, and to be honest neither of my Drs or liver consultants have ever looked at the palms of my hand, they have only got me to stretch out my hands to check for flapping. Good post though

Hi there - red palms (as I know it) can't possibly be a symptom of "end stage" cirrhosis. My palms have been red for close on 20 years - a consultant at the time pointed to my palms and said they were a symptom of liver disease (I think I was being treated for alcoholic hepatitis at the time). So don't despair!
