Liver ablation next week.

A call came from St. James's Hospital late afternoon on Wednesday.

A cancellation meant my husband could have an assessment for his liver ablation on Thursday.

Now he will be going into hospital Monday teatime and having the liver ablation on Tuesday.

what do they do for a liver ablation? I've had ablation surgery on my cervix for cancer cells - but I didn't know they could do that on the liver...that's great!

Far as I know it's when a needle probe is placed into the tumour and heated to above 60 centigrade. This heat destroys the tumour cells, and by using ultrasound/ct scans they can position the needle into the tumour, without damaging normal cells/or reducing any damage to normal cells.

Good luck. Encourage him to ask for pain relief post procedure if he needs it. Some find it ok, some find it a bit painful afterwards.

Hi Millie, the liver ablation was done yesterday afternoon. Mike was then taken to ICU, as a precaution because he has sleep apnea. I've not seen him yet, only talked by phone. Dr to see him today and Mike may even be home later. If not, it will be tomorrow. I'm also a carer for our son wih a severe mental illness.

Thanks for asking, Christine x
