Can you go straight to decompensated without having any previous symptoms or blood abnormalities?

Hello

I just wondered if you can go straight to a decompensated liver without having any previous symptoms with having normal full blood tests.

Im still convinced I have cirrhosis even though my bloods are normal.

Thank you x

You can go to acute liver failure from zero very quickly, say via an overdose.

Hi, i think its possible to have a compensated liver with near normal LFTs which can then suddenly swing into decompensated and sometimes a compensated liver does not show the suffering through blood tests alone. so iHopefully all is well but to put your mind at rest maybe you could request a fibroscan from the GP t start with mentioning the fact you used to drink in the past. Fluid retention can be a sign of low albumin when the liver struggles. Well done for all the fitness and with a bit of luck the balance thing is all to do with an ear infection rather than your liver.

wishing you well

hmmm.

Bolly is right on this one.

I had Hep C for over 20 years. Five years before my diagnosis they said I had a little bit of fluid retention due to drinking.

I got sober, and 13 months prior to diagnosis, they said all my liver counts were pretty much perfect.

Then I got sick. Very fast. But it was obvious. I had ascites.

I went from all is well to decompensated liver.

BUT, I did have Hep C. It just had not done anything yet. Even more shocking was being sober for over three years and THEN getting sick.

BUT, my question to you is..do you have Hep C? Are you or were you a heavy drinker?

Why would you think you have cirrhosis to begin with? What behaviors or illnesses have you had that would lead to you thinking that?

If you have had no diseases prior to, or no symptoms, and the blood-work is all good..then why?

Why were you tested to begin with?

Forgive me..M a little confused as to your post inquiry. I'm missing something...

Good Luck!

Hello

Thank you for replying.

I drank a bottle of wine a night for 20 years, having a year's break, 3 time while having my children.

I am very inactive and overweight.

Ive been having slight pitted odema in my shins, off and on and once in my third toe!

My GP said all my bloods were OK, I had full bloods requested for a dermatology appointment. Ive had frequent bloods for my thyroid, anxiety attacks in hospital over the years too.

Im convinced I have ALD.

I do suffer rather terribly with health anxiety.

I just wondered if you could be OK one and then not.

My main concern is that I understand you can have normal bloods and ALD.

My GP said my off and on swelling is because Im inactive.

Im really trying to lose weight - healthy dieting, lots of water and walking the dogs.

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply as Ive been reading your posts and see you are having some troubles. I really hope the doctors can sort you out, and soon.

Regards, Liz x

thanks Liz..and believe me, on here we alll have got health anxieties! That's why we are here.

Please don't be discouraged about becoming more active, etc. After along time of inactivity, it can take the body months to get moving again..Its not easy..the point is you are trying. period.

For me, I miss walking, so much, and swimming!

But as of today, I'm throwin on my wellies and walking up the road..to Rookery Lane..yes, its really called that..giggle..but its a short walk, to a covered little dirt path next to a farm..and it's a place that makes me think of wildflowers, owls and wonderful magical things. So, Im going, even if it hurts..and it will..but thats ok. Im going to do it because Ive been waiting for four years to get well enough to walk that path again. Why wait? right? Waiting gets me nowhere fast..and, when I get back home, I can take a little nap, and feel better, having gone and done it.

As for the other..if you feel very strongly, get an appointment to see a specialist..if you can.

Often, our bodies are shouting at us that something is wrong..but no one is listening.

Either way..you'll feel better knowing one way or the other.

cheering you on!
