Meld Score: Hi everyone hope you all... - British Liver Trust
Meld Score
I think they add up scores given to your Creatine level, your INR rate, and your bilirubin and then total them up.
The the scores are matched against a likelihood of needing a transplant within or by 3 months on the waiting list:-
40 or more — 71.3% mortality
30–39 — 52.6% mortality
20–29 — 19.6% mortality
10–19 — 6.0% mortality
<9 — 1.9% mortality
If your score is between 10 and 11 it looks as though your risk is fairly low.
That's what I was thinking Bolly but my gastroenterolgist wants to talk to my heptologist about having assessment for transplant, he says my liver has deteriorated drastically in the last six months, maybe it's because I got acites very quickly and also HE just guessing really thanks for replying hope you are well. Annette
Yes in the light of all your symptoms and side effects i can see it is a good idea to be thinking about/talking about the possibility of being assessed for transplant. It doesnt sound as though you are going to get better quickly by yourself, and transplant needs to be added to the treatment options. However with that score, if i have got it right and i may not have, neither does it sound like an emergency or urgent situation. Sounds like you have a bit of breathing space, to - as some say- get your ducks lined up (or is it something else!!!)
Thanks Bolly that helps, what do you mean by ducks lined up lol. Annette
It was a saying often used on the Hep C forum i was on. There it meant getting everything in place and ready before embarking treatment.
Generally it means to complete one's preparations, become efficient and well organized, as in "I'm trying to get my ducks in a row before I go on holiday" or to get one's act together> Most likely alludes to lining up target ducks in a shooting gallery at the fairground.
