Not used to diagnose liver disease any more. Docs prefer blood work, scans, etc.

If you visit nhs.com and type in white nails with red or brown tips it should give you more information. About 80% of people who have cirrhosis will have similar nail beds to yours. You would need to investigate this matter further by visiting your GP to determine the cause. A series of blood tests would help. The nail beds are only indicators of potential conditions/ health issues. For example, You may have cirrhosis but your nail beds may have a pale appearance because your are anaemic, so it is important to seek a proper diagnosis. The nature of your nail beds could even be hereditary. Good luck.

Hello I've had blood tests elevated bilirubin everything else normal and 2 normal ultrasounds but I still suspect cirrhosis.

get a Fibroscan then. ultrasound is not very good at seeing early scarring, but it should rule out major damage. i think you are suffering from anxiety. i have a band around the top and my Fibroscan is 4.2kpa, normal.

3 years of drinking is unlikely to cause cirrhosis unless you were drinking a bottle of vodka a day, hundreds of units a week! how much were you drinking?

I was drinking half a bottle of vodka a day sometimes more sometimes less. Than a year ago half a pint of vodka a day

Elevated bilirubin but normal other liver enzymes suggests problems with bile ducts not cirrhosis. Are docs investigating things like PSC/PBC as they affect the bile ducts.

I had a hidascan done and gallbladder was working fine wouldn't that show bile duct problem?

Wendy answered that question on your other thread about the Hida scan.

I also have brown bands around my fingertips. But my nails are not white.

Your nails aren't white. That is the onychodermal band at the end of your nails and is normal. Your nails are fine.

My nails were so bad they looked like I was about to loose every nail, more like scabby claws than nails, we tried everything....... it (in retrospect) seemed to be a scherrosis, nothing touched it until my transplant, they said the anti rejection drugs would clear it, and they did in about 2 weeks!! I have had bad nails for years.....

They call it clubbing i think and quite common for cirrhosis end stage patients! They could of thought of a better way of describing it though as too much "clubbing" is what f@&£ed a lot of our livers in the first place, lol.
