My runs have decreased both in length and intensity and I haven’t done much exercise for a month, due to moving and family pressures and stress. The knowledge that I’ve lost fitness too makes me miserable because it’s been hard to get to that point!
So.... I’ve today done a brisk 4 k walk with bursts of running and burnt almost 300 calories. I’ve a face like a tomato and the heat is a challenge but I did it and have found a new resolve to gently ease myself back in with the emphasis on enjoyment not punishment!
The moral of this is - doing anything must be better than doing nothing and try not to be too hard on yourselves, people!

Well done. Your dead right. Build it back up slowly. I was running a lot 2 years ago, 10K’s and 5K’s, parkrun and road races. I was loving it and was as fit as a fiddle after losing 3 stone. Now thanks to Covid-19 I lost my mojo, no parkrun and no races to train for, no PB’s to chase after. I am 10 minutes slower for a 5K now. But I’m still getting out there. Not as much but it is still something. I can’t wait for a goal to train towards. I know I can get back there again.
Yes, you’ll get there. It’s easy to get down on yourself about it but we can comfort ourselves in the knowledge that doing anything is better than nothing and for me, dropping the competitive bit and focussing on enjoying it instead is the way to feel better about myself. So, time / distance / pace doesn’t come into it yet. Just being out and doing something is enough.
