Well, here we are. Although for some of us, the fog and mist has meant sometimes, we may not be sure , where . 'here' is !
I know that the weather is so variable over the UK right now but, up here in Staffordshire, we have had a fair bit of fog and heavy, damp mist...however, although that has been the case, I have managed some runs!
Blimey! Did I just say that? Yes I have ! So, that part of my Quest goal has been met...so far!
I am no stranger to the fog monsters, and they hold no fear for me... although I do tend to run., at these times, with safety in mind.
My runs have been short, rather than long, as time is for me, at a premium right now.
I have too, taken a first foray into a different running time, inspired by MissUnderstanding
I intend doing that again soon! It was so different and such fun too!
But enough from me...I and we want to know how it is all going for YOU... how are your Quest goals coming along. Or not?
Life does have this habit of throwing stuff at us and halting us in our tracks... but if we just show up, when we can...then that is as, Coach Bennett and Woody Allen, ( thanks Beachcomber66 ), say.... a success ! It is a win!
SO, how is it going? Please share!
AND, if you have not joined us yet, why not!!!! Come on and join in with the fun, we would love to hear your goals and targets as you move forward!
This month's Quest... what is it ?
For all our new visitors.
*********
What is the Quest?
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
You need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured, according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:
★ To run three times a week
★ To slowly increase distance
★ To train for a specific race
★ To add strength and flex exercises to your weekly routine
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is comment below with something like: “I would like to join the quest”, or, “count me in! I would like to...”
Any questions, just ask! Come and say hi, we want to know what you're aiming for!
So... your turn now, who is in this for a wonderful run, through the colours of the season?
Come on and join us please!
Oldfloss and the Team x
PS
May be late replying today as I have a full, morning appointment with Mr OF at the Royal Stoke! I will catch up with you all, later! x

Right, after purely forgetting for so many days to post my goals for the month, I am getting an early start on reporting on the first week.
Not least because I've ticked off a key one which has been the regular headline goal every month and too often completed right at the end of the month. So I am delighted to say that I did my full 5k run and I loved it, along the Caldon Canal, full of interest, a surprising variety of surfaces. I decided to eat my lunch immediately before setting out (not something we'd really be recommending normally) and it worked really well, no sense of fading.
The Active 10 app wasn't especially impressed (must go talk tips on the Active 10 forum) so whilst I am not far adrift of average brisk minutes a day or Active 10s I am not where I thought I would be.
Yoga is fairly similar... and there've been no tidying sessions yet. The tech (or human-tech interface) has let me down with the pelvic floor exercises - I haven't really done only one session rather than one session a day, but I reckon I must have forgotten to save on another occasion. (But definitely haven't done a session a day)
Morning Oldfloss ! Not so much scrunchy leaves as soggy leaves here! Still, i take cold and damp over too hot for running-that’s what I’m holding on to during these grey days. Congrats on your runs…I’m also in a busy period and I know what an achievement it is to squeeze in any sort of run when life’s like that. Really hope that the appointment goes well today. So glad you enjoyed your evening run!
It’s reaching peak craziness here with work etc but I’ve just about met my goals. I’ve had a couple of nice runs-parkrun, 6.5km on Monday and I’ll do the third one of the week today. Not being able to run as much as usual has really made me appreciate when I have been able to go. I’m holding on to December (when all the deadlines are) not being far off now and I’m in tick over mode until then.
I was aiming for two strength sessions and I’ve managed those. I’m at the point where some weights are feeling a bit easy so I might put them up next week. I’ve also done a yoga class and a Pilates class. No glow in the dark make up yet-I’m moving that goal to next week when I’m meeting a friend for a shopping trip in Bath. I have finally (almost!) settled on a half marathon for February. Once I’m back at ten miles and my knee is behaving, I’ll book that.
So a fairly normal week with nothing awful or amazing to report. I’m counting that as a big win given everything else that needs doing. This week I’m going for the same two goals as last week…
Hello. I was thinking of you and the warmth, up at the hospital today... I lost the car on the car park and it was freezing cold and misty too! Found it, by opening the boot automatically !
You are so busy that I am amazed how much you get in, run wise and exercise wise too! Strength weights, Yoga and Pilates!! Blimey!
This is very good news for that HM too...something to aim for, just steadily, over the dark winter months.
Your goals for this week are realistic and I feel, doable?
Hello Oldfloss , thank you for holding us to account despite all the other demands on your time. Well done for getting out and running, especially in the fog. My Mum drummed into me that fog was unhealthy and I can't get rid of that belief so I take it as an excuse to stay in bed.
The NRC plan isn't quite doing it for me. I did the first two runs last week but not the 5 minute run (never know quite how these work - all that mental prep for just 5 minutes?). That's OK though, the 5 minute run is optional.
I'm now on Week 2 but I wasn't in a speed run mood today. I won't be able to run again until Monday at the earliest so maybe I'll just psych myself up and do it then. It's all in the mind. Anyway, I've done two additional runs so that's 3 runs thus week so I'm pretty happy about that.
For this week I'm going to keep the NRC plan as an option, it's good to have suggestions of what sort of run to do to keep things fresh.
As for the strength etc stuff, oops, not very good. I've only done one. Oh well, there's always this week isn't there?
Let's look at what we have done not at what we might have done eh?
Sounds like a perfect evening for sitting at home with a mug of cocoa and a blazing fire. Mum knew her stuff for sure (she'd have had a Guinness not a cocoa 😂♥)
Hoping here that today's appointment went smoothly, and you can collect yourselves and grab a chill day tomorrow maybe.
Well done on your run in the semi-darkness this week, mine too was streetlamp lit and through many crunchy leaves. Lots of other folk were out running too, and I was near the sports centre so I felt safe.
My YWA has been a catch -up week, and I have fitted in a lot of shortish sessions. I have been doing her spooky halloween ones (see the end of her October calendars) and had a bit of fun as I stretched and strenghened.
I am due to run again this weekend, no idea when, but if the opportunity arises I will be out there. 🤞
Its getting colder out there, so time for a woolly hat, and maybe gloves.
Stay safe everyone and good luck with your quests.
