Hello you lovely runners…I hope you’re all having a lovely bank holiday?
How’s your quest going? Well, if it’s anything like mine it’s not exactly gone to plan!!! I only managed one run last week…I’ve done a bit of yoga, a few walks & some core strength work but that’s about it..so this is my last push…in the morning I will be down by the canal running along the towpath wondering why, when I enjoy it so much, don’t I keep up with running 3 times a week!!!!
i have started a plan on Garmin now that I have a new watch so hopefully this will keep me motivated…
There was some great quests going on last week…have you managed to keep up to them & what’s your plan for this coming week, the end of summer…? Summer??? Summer?? When? Where was it!??
Lets share our quests and spur each other on for the last time this month…
If you’re new to the quest, here’s how it goes….
The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.
Some popular goals are:
🌼🌺To run three times a week
🌼🌺To slowly increase distance
🌼🌺To train for a specific race
🌼🌺To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine
You need to be a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.
This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENTBELOW with something like:
I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............
Good luck…let’s see in the end of the month on a high…

Well, a lot can unravel... or come together... in that final week.
As for me - I achieved my goal of getting my 5K medal run in the bag earlier in the month (not wanting another 'last day of the month' hot slog) and said beetle medal is in the post on its way to me. Mind you, it was a bit of a hot slog in the end but I was rather pleased with this crafty run which at the time I just intended to be a wee run not 'the' run. I had taken running things but couldn't be bothered to change a thing so it was sandals, cotton shorts, hair not up... and then I realised that I was achieving a faster pace than of late and that I could therefore do a 5K in less time... and we were on!
As of today I am on target with averaging 10 brisk minutes a day but not so comfortably so that I can rest on my laurels. Various reasons to think it could go either way so I think I'm not going to just go with the flow and let it happen (or not!) by chance.
Pelvic floor exercises... I reckon the only session I'm not showing as completed over the last month is one I did but forgot to save.
The thing I'm way down on is the 31+ yoga classes (and before you think that was unrealistic that might be a 10 minute breathwork session...) so I'm setting a new subgoal to get up to 16+ by the end of the month and for at least one I do over that time to be a full asana based class.
Mummycav you've kept up a pretty rounded fitness practice on top of a busy life and supporting us all through the August Quest so very much achieving the spirit of the thing.
Even if you're not running much Mummycav you're doing all sorts of good stuff to maintain your fitness. Once you get back in the groove there'll be no stopping you
I haven't quite achieved my Quest that I set out at the start of the month but I feel I'm close enough to allow myself to feel successful. Heat early on and strong winds at the end of last week kept me indoors when I really felt I should be out running. I knew it'd just be a battle under those conditions so why not indulge myself?
So, I've only done 9 runs in nearly 4 weeks but if all goes well I should get at least two more in before the end of the month, like I said, close enough.
In terms of distance run I'm smashing it compared to previous years. In 2022 I only managed 21.21 km, in 2023 25.33 km (on the IC in 2021, the year I started C25K). This August I'm on 37.70 and counting so, all being well, this will be my most active month so far this year. Pretty pleased with that
The slow running has been great, learning how to pace myself is a skill I need to develop. That was one advantage of the heat - short, slow runs which gave way to longer ones as the weather has cooled a little.
As for the weight, I haven't weighed myself but I'm feeling a bit more compact so I'm happy with that. The new trousers that I worried would be tight actually fit perfectly so that's my priority, gotta love a sale bargain.
Well done Yesletsgo ..whatever you’ve been up to it’s what worked for you…battling with the wind is ok one way but coming back, is hard if the wind is in front!! Better off cosy at home!! I’m feeling better this morning after my run, it’s lovely and sunny today which always lifts the spirits and brings out all the lovely wildlife down by the canal which I love to see…I had a little snack while I was out this morning too when I spotted all the blackberries 😉
As for a bargain…I’m from Yorkshire don’t forget..and bargain is every Yorkshire persons middle name 🤣🤣🤣 x
After my holiday it's now time to build again towards the Manchester marathon next April. Parkrun got a new pb last weekend and today gone on a lovely run down by the canal at Slaithwaite .Good luck everyone on your Quest
🍏 Oh I adore that chick! Enough to make anyone get off the sofa and run!!! 🏃♀️ Hope your new watch is really helpful in motivating extra runs but wow you are keeping up S &F better than I am!! Down on my steps too.. wanted to up the count this week but guess I am not ready yet to follow the chick 🐥 thanks for the motivation!! Xx
Hope you got your morning canal run in and that you are feeling great! And well done for that yoga work as well!
My only aim this months was to get back to 100% full strength and I did.
In my return-to-C25k plan, I finished week 6 and am about to start week 7 this week.
Rowing is also going strong, yesterday I rowed a sub 30-minute 5k, which is good for me! 😀
And for S&F, although I haven’t done any specific yoga sessions, each row and run is followed by a thourough stretching session that includes a few yoga and Tibetan rites moves. The sessions are ca 10minutes, I do this at least once a day, sometimes twice when a day includes both a run and row.
So all going well and I’m already looking forward to starting a 10k plan soon.
Good morning Mummycav thank you so much for hosting the August quest and providing a fab photo. August is quickly coming to an end and of course Autumn will be upon us soon.
My bank holiday Monday was spent travelling back home after a busy week in Yorkshire. So for me last week consisted of a lot of walking ,meeting well over my step target for most days so I did do some exercise although it wasn’t running.
I haven’t actually ventured out yet since coming back what with unpacking , etc ,and having yesterday ( Tuesday ) and today to recharge my batteries I shall venture out tomorrow……and like your lovely chick 🐥 I shall give a one last push towards the end of August.🏃♀️😂😂
So for me my quest for the last week of August will be…..
