Another slow 3K for me this morning. I don't know why but it felt like hard work, maybe because it was a couple of degrees warmer? I was concentrating on keeping my heartrate in zones 3 and 4 but at times the effort much greater.

Maybe I'll do a speed run next week to shake out the cobwebs!

The thing is Yesletsgo is to enjoy yourself while running, don't bother too much about speed or pace, run slowly no matter what the distance is, I enjoy 3K runs, I call them "maintenance runs" if I don't go to parkrun or I am a marshall at parkrun I run a 3K on a Saturday or Friday respectively, in very cold or very wet weather I also try and run a 3K in the park very near to where I live just to keep the legs in running order.🏃

I did the same run the other day and it felt effortless, I think maybe I was more tired or the weather was warmer this morning.

Like you I see the 3k as maintenance. While it was really hot I couldn't realistically do much more. It sort of keeps you going until you're able to make an effort again.

I definitely wasn't bothered about pace. My current 'challenge' is to keep my heart rate below the maximum zone which naturally leads to slower pace and I'm fine with that. The only downside about running slower is it takes longer to get home and have breakfast 😂

Take it from someone who is firmly stuck to the couch, a slow, steady 3k would be bliss, who cares if it's slow? It's being on your feet

I am embracing slow. It just feels so good to slip into that sort of effortless pace, which didn't seem to happen today. Still enjoyed it though. even if it was a bit harder than I planned. Maybe I need to go even slower (if that's possible)

Hi Sue, I was at parkrun yesterday, today I cycled a short 18K bike ride, nice bike ride but I only saw two other cyclists but an amazing 16 runners, on one part of the route which was off road I stopped to let several runners running at sub 25 minute pace get by as it was narrow at that bit, they thanked me, the 16th runner whom I saw was running with his dog on the same part as I run near my home on a Wednesday, it's usually only at parkrun that I see someone running with their dog, all in all a nice Sunday sunny bike ride

Bet you were not as slow as me!Well done you...it was cooler here but sunny...made running feel easy...but I didn't get far.

Speed run for you? I'll watch out for it! Xxx

My average pace was 9'08/km, which is actually faster than my last 3k (9'23") and 5k (9'25"), maybe that's why it was hard work, I was going too fast 😂😂😂

You're doing so well Yesletsgo and some days (for a multitude of reasons) it can feel tougher. It's just a page in your running book that you've banked and will turn a new one soon with it's own feel and story. I'm like you in that I'll do a good amount of steady running then every now and then (once a week or so) I'll have a blast and the speed is there.

Do you do strides? I really love these and it's a great way of incorporating speed at the end of a shorter steadier session. Over time I've seen that it's added another dimension to my running.

Not quite sure what you mean by strides GTFC ? What do they involve? I'm intrigued :)

These really are incredible if you do them at least once a week and preferably twice 😁

Thanks GTFC , when I started running I'd often do a few bursts of speed just for fun, didn't know they had a name :)

Must try them again!

Definitely Yesletsgo along with hills and slower running, strides are one of the best things to do. Let me know in a few weeks how it's going 😊
