How did your parkrun or (not)parkrun go?

Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.

Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).

If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.

For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Thanks for the thread! Tourist parkrun at Stormont for MrU and me this morning. I’m still having a battle with post-Covid fatigue and haven’t run nearly two weeks so we jeffed it. Super slow compared to usual but it was just nice to be out. I absolutely loved this one. Great setting it the parliament at the top of the hill. Gentle inclines, paths through trees, not to tight and a warm welcome. I actually felt I could run at my current snail pace and drop to a walk without getting in anyone’s way. A really positive experience. Even managed a little pick up to get over the line!

The only minor negative? I didn’t read the website properly so turned up at 830am for a 9am start when it actually began at 9.30am! Totally my fault. Still, it was a nice long warm up walk in some very pretty surroundings!

Hope you all had fun parkruns fellow parkrunners!

We’re loving it too! Spent yesterday doing the tourist classics. Same again today and we’re heading for the coast tomorrow. We’re already planing a return visit!

This morning I was up early and traveled with my 2 parkrun friends to travel to do Castlerea parkrun. It was a lovely 3 lap course in and around a town park along a river. A quiet parkrun with just about 30 runners and walkers. I felt comfortable and finished in 8th place in a time of 26:40 which matched my Garmin Forerunner 35 perfectly. We went into a local cafe afterwards for a lovely post parkrun breakfast. Happy running everyone.

I was just about to volunteer to Tailwalk at Marple when we got an email from friends offering us a lift to Haigh Woodland. What a lovely parkrun, we were greeted by Maddy then a very entertaining First Timers Welcome. It is a scenic one lap woodland course on tarmac and trails which were not too muddy today. 2.5km downhill (not too steep) which meant 2.5km uphill, some of which I walked.

Before the RD briefing an announcement was made that the man in the gorilla suit was getting married today and his Dad pledged £1 to the Southport fund for everyone who greeted them on the way round, plus £5 for everyone who sang a song.

I didn’t expect to see them but just as I started uphill they caught me up and I sang (Show me the Way to) Amarillo to them. I ran/walked/sang with them most of the way until I couldn't keep up near the end. It was great, I hardly noticed the hill. No result yet but I know it was under 40 minutes.

After the run we went to the cafe for bacon and egg butties, sitting in the sunshine.

NB no report last week because we were at Cropredy Festival and it would have taken so long to get out of the camping field, plus there were roadworks around Banbury, plus a late night beforehand which included dancing to Tony Christie singing Amarillo.

Hello Damienair and fellow parkrunners, our parkrun was cancelled today because of the Southsea Rowing Regatta affecting our course. So we picked up Oldgirlruns and headed for Havant parkrun, which we did for the first time in June last year. We bumped into a few Southsea runners before the run.

This one is held in Staunton Country Park and is a mix of parkland, around a lake, complete with swans and 3 cygnets, and through a wooded area. It includes a steep gravel path down (twice) and up some slopes as what goes down must go up later . It was a hot morning so we were grateful for the shade of the trees.

I have got a twingey left glute at the moment and I did a lot of walking up the slopes. However, my email says I got a PB there - a whole 10 seconds quicker than last time. 39:44. 😂

They were having problems with the coffee machine in the cafe so we headed for the Salt Shack at Hayling Island Marina and had a fine breakfast with the lovely view of sailing vessels.

I probably need to get some physio exercises now to sort out this twinge.

🍏 Hayling Island!! Lovely memories of a long weekend spent there years ago in a hotel next to the Yacht club! Loved the ting ting of the yachts in the wind! 🤣

Yes we went past the hotel to get to the Salt Shack. A lovely spot.

Hi Damienair, a short report from me today as Dexy5 has already written a much more descriptive piece than I could do about our sojourn to Havant parkrun. I had been in two minds whether to go as I haven’t run for weeks, with a sore knee and absolutely no ‘oomph’ at the moment. My get up and go has definitely got up and gone! But I’m glad I went as it’s a lovely course and easily walkable with the odd outbreak of slow running. The only ‘raised eyebrow’ moment was the helpful picture of a downhill skier at the top of a slope we were running down! I came in at 276 out of 283 with a parkrun time of bang on an hour (Garmin time 59:55!). And a yummy breakfast by a marina to finish, what more could you wish for!
