My boyfriend and I went to visit one of his relatives at the weekend. They have a large house with a swimming pool, gym and a large annex that we stayed in, and best of all, we were able to take the dogs with us. Their garden backs onto fields with footpaths going in all directions where they spend hours walking with their dogs. It looks idyllic and I must admit to being a bit jealous.
We were warned that Sunday lunch was at a dog friendly pub about 5 miles across these fields and to come prepared. When we reached the pub, it was in a tiny village with no more than 10 houses, but two pubs but apparently people come from miles around to visit them and parking in the village is almost impossible, hence why we had to walk.
We took a different walk home along a country road and in the middle of nowhere was a large camping/outdoor clothing/sports shop with a big sign outside stating "Up to 50% off everything". Our hosts said that this is an amazing store and they sell just about anything outdoorsy!
In we went. My boyfriend had said he wanted to buy me a new pair of running shoes for my birthday so this looked like the ideal time.
Just inside the door was a lovely lady selling raffle tickets in aid of a charity supported by a local fundraiser who himself was now seriously ill. Our hosts bought £5s worth each and we did the same. When asked what colour tickets I wanted, as I was eager to get to the running shoe section before it closed, I just said I'll take a mixture. The prizes included £100 vouchers for footwear and clothing, various sports and camping accessories etc.
Disappointment came with the running shoes as none of those with the best discount fitted and I cant justify spending £170 on a pair even if that was 25% off.
This morning I received an email saying I had one a prize in the raffle, wow!!
The prizes were listed with the winning raffle ticket and colour next to them.
As I went down the list, unfortunately I was not the winner of any of the £100 footwear vouchers. It was not one of the clothing vouchers either. Further down the list I went having to check each of my tickets until I finally got to mine. I was unsure what I had won at first, but a quick Google and I was enlightened, I have won chemicals for a caravan toilet!! Yipee!!! (I don't have a caravan 🤣 ).
What I failed to realise when I bought the tickets is that each colour ticket represented a section of the store, pink was for caravanning, blue appears to be sports stuff, white for hiking and so on.
What a disappointment. All I can say is that it seemed to be a worthy cause.
