Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good Afternoon all parkrunners and Not-parkrunners. I hope you have had a successful enjoyable morning. I did the course check at Stratford this morning. A shorter walk than normal as a regatta had use of the top of the park so we were on the 4 lap course. All well then a wait in the rain listening to Katnap doing the course briefing and then we were off. I felt good, I felt strong and I felt quick (before you get too excited remember this is all relative!!). Three laps in I thought I might have gone off too quick as I was starting to tire, so I put in a wee bit more effort. 299th place, 4th in my age category and a time identical to my parkrun PB. Strava has given me negative splits so that last bit of effort did the trick. I’m very happy with that!
We spent a a night in the lovely New Forest to celebrate UpTheStanley ’s birthday, and were then booked to stay in Swanage for 2 nights and visit the Durlston Country Park parkrun. However, looking at the weather forecast during the week, we decided we didn’t really fancy running on a cliff with 80% chance of rain and 40 mph winds. So hotel cancelled before charges applied, and we returned home yesterday. We were still determined to do a tourist run and when we went to bed we thought we’d be travelling to Netley Abbey this morning. Checked it on Facebook at 07.00 to find it was going to be their B course - 5.75 laps around a cricket pitch! 😱 We didn’t fancy that so ended up going the opposite direction to Chichester instead.
It absolutely poured down while we were parking, wind was gusting, and I got soaked just buying the parking ticket. We headed for the sports ground next to the Festival Theatre and huddled under cover listening to the briefings.
This was 3 laps on grass and a few paths described as gravel turned out to be soggy clay . You can see that we ran up and around 3 rugby pitches and then a straight downhill. It was a bit drizzly but not as bad as before.
Fenton, the Southsea touring bear came with us today, dressed very appropriately in foulies. They are very posh in Chichester, as a group of runners were celebrating a 100 run milestone with champagne and cake! We headed off to the Theatre Cafe and had an excellent bacon bap and cappuccino.
Thats it, my 29th different parkrun, and my 2nd C in the pirates challenge. 44 kph wind according to Garmin and 14°C and parkrun time 36:28.
You are made of tough stuff Dexy5, and a more than decent time given the conditions. I managed to just about escape the rain on my 6k intervals. It looks as though the sun will appear up here to wave us off on holiday on Wednesday!
It’s not an easy course for someone who doesn’t like running on grass or up hills (however gradual) but the choices were getting narrower. I did do well on the downhills though, which compensated for some walking. Hope Lakeside wasn’t too wet.
The rain did stop before the start but it took me half a lap to get out of “why the xxxx are we doing this?” mode😀. OK after that! The course is quite fun as it zigzags uphill one rugby pitch at a time, then comes straight down the left hand side of the map. 26’32” for me and quite happy, though despite being a year older than last week I just missed a 70% age grading!
Belated happy birthday to UTS and well done to you both on grabbing another C and on your parkrun tourism. Pity the parkrun fairies didn’t keep the rain away this time.
Hi guys !! No park run for me this morning - ran intervals in prep for Park run in B’ham next Saturday !! Attempting a new pb ( currently 27:24) so hopefully my efforts will pay off !! Just about to spring for a new Garmin to create and log my training , making things just a liiiittle more interesting !! Finding coach Bennett’s NRC guided interval runs so very helpful , they are keeping me honest too Lol 😎
Well done to those who ran/walked park run today despite the weather !!
Not tried the Funky Fartleks yet - been concentrating on ‘Speed run one’ ,and getting to the point where I can run instead of walk in between each fast section - but will no doubt visit all of the ‘speedy’ training plans as a means of keeping things interesting!!
I felt a little smug this morning seeing the What’sApp posts from the rest of our group further south and west as they shivered in wind and rain while here in Lincolnshire the sky was blue, the sun was out and it was 14c. So I toddled off to Market Rasen for my 110th parkrun (50th at Rasen) and returned to fastest time in 2024. OK it was only 5 seconds faster at 33.20, but, hey, 5 seconds is 5 seconds and it was in the right direction 🥳 Spent most of the afternoon watching the rain hammering down outside. Oh well, back to the 2024 English summer ☹️
5 seconds is definitely not to be sniffed at Sandie. The rain descended here on my cool down walk home and has persisted all afternoon. Molly not amused! The sun has just peaked out now……it won’t last though!
We were in Lincolnshire last week, 5 nights in Woodhall Spa. We considered adding another night in order to do a parkrun on the way home but in the end came home via Gainsborough Old Hall on Friday and did Marple yesterday
No, Woodhall Spa Camping and Caravanning club. Not as smart as Jubilee but a lot cheaper, especially with extra Age Concession discount for booking 5 nights.
Hope you enjoyed it. We’re off to South West Scotland on Sunday for 10 days, hopefully just in time for summer to arrive 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Ayr parkrun in my sights!
Visit number 74 to Chadderton today and parkrun 104 in total.
I arrived in good time (5 minutes before) and wore just my black 100 parkruns tee shirt (and shorts, socks and shoes, of course). The feared rain hadn't happened and the sun had briefly come out. The air had a slight chill of morning but was not cold.
A good number of runners today but not quite as many as last week. I waved to a few I recognised. One lady was doing her 150th. (Pity there's such a large gap in tee shirt numbering.)
I'm not fully out of this cold. It's still lingering in my throat giving me a husky voice, and I'm coughing a little. Nose and chest are clear, though. Also of concern is my inner left calf which seems to be a bit sore and tight for some reason: probably due to how I've been sitting for long periods whilst working at my parents'.
In the line up this morning are several kids (with responsible adults), a couple of dogs (including a very focussed and well behaved Labrador) and a lady all in black from neck to shoes pushing a black pushchair.
We're off. I briefly chat with the 150 lady until she falls behind, then I gradually catch up with Peter who beat me last week. We run together for about half a lap until he gradually drops back too.
As usual I pull ahead of the people who are unfamiliar with the course, have gone off far too fast, and are flagging by lap three.
However I'm lapped by an effortlessly speedy lady before I've even got three quarters of the way round lap two. I'm not lapped by anyone else until well into lap three.
I concentrate on my gait, not wishing to do anything that might cause the left calf to become uncomfortable. In doing that I subconsciously slow down a bit and notice that I've got all the way round this week without needing any walk breaks.
I do speed up on the final straight but you could in no way count it as a sprint.
I'd noticed Peter wincing a bit when I looked back on one of the later laps and checked up on him when he finished a little after me. He has problems with his upper oesophagus and it was playing up a bit today.
On chatting with the marshals it turns out that a lady had indeed finished first today – something of a rarity.
I hung around chatting a bit more, then left at about ten to ten. Back at the car I towelled off and changed into a dry top.
My official time today was 31:17 which is (to my surprise) faster than last week.
Trip to Swindon cancelled, so it was back to Portsmouth Lakeside after all today and the puddles had returned with a vengeance! Heavy showers in the forecast, so was all kitted out in 'waterproof' jacket and cap, but after a brief shower during the briefing, we had no more rain and at one point the sun even came out - English weather eh?! In those conditions I wasn't expecting too much, but in the end I finished in 31.57, 3 seconds faster than last week - that midweek 10k hill climb must have done the trick!
Well done on that time JP. I didn’t think you were intending to run today, but your time came up on my app. This morning. I'm so glad I got to run on your course on a sunny day this week.
My son in law had a bright idea 💡 (not) let's go and run Cliffe Castle parkrun Keighley, hmm well all I can say is that it's one tough course and my first and last time doing that one. Weather was dry but it's a undulating with trail 👣. Did it in just over 31 minutes happy with the time but it took some out of me. I'd tell anyone in West Yorkshire to try it at least once
Last weekend I went with my parkrun friends to run at Mountbellew Forest parkrun. It was my 61st different Irish parkrun course. It was a 2 hour drive away from home. It was an absolutely beautiful Forest parkrun trail, 3 laps with super friendly locals. I finished in 13th place in a time of 26:33. Very happy with that. I just ran by feel and didn’t look at my watch, it was a nice comfortable run. Afterwards we talked to some of the locals and then joined them at an amazing cafe which was a converted double decker bus. Another great parkrun morning.
I know. I actually purchased a tent in Decathlon last week. I travel with my job sometimes. So I plan to take the opportunity on a Friday to stay at a campsite somewhere near a parkrun 😁
Late report from me for yesterday, and even later for last week, but both pretty much the same. Finish Set Up, followed by First Timer Welcome before running.
No Junior parkruns because we were away last week and it was cancelled yesterday for the Marple Runners 10K trail race. I didn’t run that but I did volunteer for the Family Fun Run which preceded the race.
I stood near the junior parkrun course to redirect people who hadn't realised it was cancelled (one first timer and a family who would have been late for parkrun !)
Then I went back to help hand out the medals, not a timed race, anyone who paid to register had their hands stamped and could have a medal and sweets, including parents.
It was lovely to see so many of the junior parkrunners there.
