Saturdays are my longish, even slower runs. I also try to use them to practice mindfulness by running without headphones in... And on day 18 of the #SiRunstreak24 was my first time since early last year that I ran 90 minutes again 🥳 - slow af 🐢 and mindful 🪷. In between I was on the injury couch and had Covid (again...), coming back from both sloooowly.
Today was also the first time someone shouted at me for running slower than they think they should. I saw them coming out of the corner of my eyes: Two guys on bikes in white & red, the colors of the local soccer team ⚽. Instinctively, I knew that they were targeting me. Even though, I was out of their way when they rode past, one of them yelled at me "faster, faster." I flicked them off.
And then spent the next 5 minutes berating myself for not having a "better comeback 😤." Then I remembered: Mindfulness! Breathing in on four steps; breathing out on four steps. "But I should've said [fill in some nasty thing]." Oh, right. Mindfulness. 🪷 Breathing in on four steps; breathing out on four steps.
So it went for a while until, finally, I noticed, somewhat surprised, that I wasn't even thinking about them anymore; that my smile had returned to my face, totally enjoying the rhythm of my run. 😊That's why I run for my mental health! 💪
Photos contains small versions of my run/walk streak photos... Less than 2 weeks to go! Next Saturday, I'll participate in the HU 10K, planning to run it in 90 minutes or less. 😎

Great run for you and I’m so sorry you had to have some idiot shouting at you like that. Your pace is your pace. You could have had the best comeback in the world and it probably wouldn’t have made any difference. What counts is telling yourself you’re a runner and nobody has the right to take that away from you.
Really good luck with the HU10 run. I think I’ll be doing next Saturday too. See you on the start line! I’ll be waving my pom poms for you!
Thanks, MissUnderstanding ! Tbh, he pulled me out of wherever my mind was back to mindfulness, which ended up pretty helpful. Maybe that's the best comeback as it really helped me 😉
I'll be waving my pom poms for you for your HU10 run, too! 🥳
... not all bikers are like that, honest 😍 I've been riding past groups of d of e kids telling them how great they're doing. They probably just think what a batty old woman I am 😂
I know Linda, I've been passed by some really polite and encouraging bikers and some whizz too close bikers. It's a bit the same when cycling along a road, most cars give you space and a few just whizz past as if you aren't there, Almost knocking you off, sorry that was a bit of a generalisation, please blame this bug that just won't leave, I'm not usually judgemental
No apology needed. There are good and bad everywhere- bikes, cars, runners and walkers!!! That bug needs to get list though doesn't it. Feel better very soon xxx
I, too, get passed by bikers regularly. In fact, that spot is part of a street cutting the city park in half that gets closed to cars on weekends. So, it's full of walkers, runners, and bikers... Who knows why they decided to comment 🤣
I don't remember what possessed me to try running one without music but I did - and liked it a lot so since then, I've just designated my longish run as a mindful run 🪷
