I intended to do the 5k Tempo run for the NRC 10k plan today but...

(1) rain overnight meant there would be muddy paths, no fun for a longer run (although the tempo run is 5k there's 1.5k each of warm up and cool down, so it's 8k in total)

(2) I left my good running shoes at my brother's house in London when I stayed there last weekend. My second best ones are worn out, only suitable for walking in, all the support seems to have given up the ghost. They're OK for a short run but a longer one might risk doing myself an injury.

So I did the sensible thing, a gentle 3k. There wasn't too much mud but it was the slippery sort rather than deep ruts. I had to pay attention and walk in places. On the plus side it was a beautiful morning, the sun was shining and, apart from the sections where the wind was blowing me backwards it was breezy and lovely.

I probably won't be getting my good shoes back until Monday, then on Tuesday I'm off on my travels again so it doesn't seem likely that I'll be able to continue with the 10k plan. I'm aiming to maintain my fitness while I'm away and resume the Plan when I get back as I'm really enjoying it.

I'm hoping to run my local 10k in October so plenty of time to prepare for that :). Actually having a date in mind will certainly focus me. In the meantime I'll be closely following everyone else still on the NRC 10k, enjoy it :)

That sounds like a very wise decision! I’ve skipped that one and might come back to it. Those 3k runs are such nice ones. Not too long but long enough to feel like you’ve done something!

When I saw '5k Tempo run' I thought, 'OK, a 5k'. When I realised there was an extra 3k added on it felt a bit like they were trying to trick me!!

🍏 You and MissUnderstanding should have saved these comments for the 1st April 🤣🤣🤣 Jokes aside glad you listened to your heart on the matter. I did a tempo run last year in my old trainers and ended up with a mild pain in my heel which needed physio. Fortunately it was sorted quickly! Enjoy your travels! Xx

Thanks, I've had tendon problems in the past from running in knackered shoes too 😱
