Are you a Hot 🔥 or Cold ❄️ Runner ?

Two beautiful sunrise runs this week but what a difference in weather conditions between the two.

Wednesday it was -3.5° when I stepped out and it actually got colder while I was out. The thermometer showed -4° when I returned.

So what to wear ?🤔 I chose my winter leggings, a base layer and my M&S Good Move gilet, gloves, hat and buff. It was a bit chilly to start off but absolutely fine once I got going.

Today the madness of the weather meant it was 8.6° as I stepped out. I knew I would have been fine in shorts but they've been consigned to the back of a drawer somewhere so it was 3/4 leggings, a long sleeve top and gloves.

I’ve learnt that I'm a hot runner 🥵 and I hate being too hot. Although weirdly when not running I seem to always be wearing a couple more layers than everyone else.

So my question is do you run hot 🔥 or cold❄️

PS

Thanks for all your fascinating replies to my last post, I loved reading them all.

I love this! I’m most definitely a hot runner. Whenever I think I’m going to be cold and dress warmer, I end up taking half of it off. This time of year, I’m usually in a long sleeved t shirt and leggings, with a light jacket, gloves and a hat at the start of a run but not by the end!

Yes that was me last year, I remember a couple of times I had to hide in some bushes to strip off a layer 😂

Beautiful pictures 📷 ♥️Tasha and I are both definitely cold weather runners. There's just something about being out in the elements and braving it. I love having something to look forward to when I finish running. After a cold run it might be soup, cuppa or a hot shower that makes me smile 😃 It's amazing how quickly you warm up too when you run and it's cold.

Hot porridge after the shower 😋

Definitely prefer cool conditions. Today it was 6.5° and I wore t shirt and merino fleece and long leg leggings. That was perfect! With these temperatures I don't end up looking like a radish !! But if icy or below zero I tend to give it a miss out of safety concerns, especially in our woods where those leaves cover a multitude of pesky roots and puddles just lurking there, waiting to trip you up!

Oh those pesky tree roots 😂 for me three messaging hazard is tripping over sticks that have been blown down

Despite being 'that woman in the office who feels the cold' it's the opposite when I run. I only stopped wearing short sleeves and 3/4 leggings a couple of weeks back. It's usually a long sleeved t shirt, warm leggings and gloves, a thin buff and a woolly hat for 5-8C. Below 5C maybe a thermal top and thin running jumper, which might be taken off.

The other day it was absolutely freezing, drizzly, one of those days when it never really gets light. I'd taken one look out of the window and just thought 'nope'. A little later I drove to the butcher, down a single track country road. I spotted a runner in shorts and a short sleeved t shirt. A few minutes later she came into the butchers and we got chatting. She told me she always dresses for K2 (obviously not the mountain). After buying her meat she set off again, to run the km or two to the Co Op on the high street. Now she is hard core!

Your first paragraph definitely sounds like me.I do like a useful run but I am intrigued how she was carrying all her shopping

What beautiful sunsets. I'm a sort of hot runner and wear shorts late in the year but I just love running on a hot day with shorts and tiny tee, I love the sun on my skin and think of all that vitamin D.

Although I really warm up during a run, I've decided I'm not a fan of sub zero temps. I feel the cold so much I put on too many layers and then wander why I can't run properly. So I'm happier it's no longer freezing even if it is a bit damp.

It is tricky getting that balance right in the clothing versus the weather. I kept getting it wrong last year and several times had to hide in some bushes while I stripped off my T shirt and carried on in my gilet 🥵
