I've sort of decided to do our local 10k again in October so realise that some sort of training is needed. I'm hoping to do 3 runs a week - recovery, speed/tempo and a longer run where I increase the distance. Today was going to be the start of the so called regime but it was just a little bit too warm for pushing myself. The thermometer said 19C but it felt nearer to 22C in the blazing sun.
As we left the house there was a bit of a pong in the air. I worried that the local farmers would be muck spreading, not nice as I believe that they use human waste. Sometimes you literally can't go outside, but luckily today the smell dissipated quickly (and it definitely was nowhere near as bad as it could be).
I started off a bit quicker than I should have (keen!) so slowed down as I progressed. As we ran the path had a wonderful scent of warm grass and moist earth, so evocative of the British summer.
During the last km I noticed my heart rate was a bit higher than I'd like so walked for a minute or two which worked. We only did 3km but that's better than pushing and making myself ill. Then it was back home to lie on the grass and do my cooldown stretches. As I took deep breaths I was reminded there's a curry plant growing by my head. I'd forgotten it was there
We'll be going away soon and I'm not even sure I'll be able to run so am spending far too much time stressing about whether to take my running shoes with me. I had a good look at them today and I can practically fold them in half, which I believe means that they have more or less had it. I'm thinking I'll downgrade them from running to walking, but take them with me in case I get an opportunity and buy a new pair to keep at home.
I'm a woman with a plan! (or two)
