The sun broke through just before this mornings Parkrun. Warm and a little blustery..

I always start too fast, the first bit is across grass, i think i need to start running on grass, it always throws me.

Chatting to a woman who said she hadn't run for about 4 months and would take walk breaks.

It was a good run, finished in 44 min 17 secs, not my fastest 5k but my fastest Parkrun.

Run happy and enjoy your weekend

🍏👏Well done! It’s difficult to start slowly in a park run as there is that surge of energy that one gets caught up in as they blow the whistle. Great timing! Xx

Well done!

Hove Park - I was volunteering - started humid, but ended up quite bearable.

It poured down about 5 minutes from the end qnd very welcome but i had to take my glasses off

ha ha , we got the rain just as UTS walked down to volunteer, having ignored my suggestion of taking a jacket.

I find grass slows me down but it’s good to try all these surfaces. I don’t like parkruns that are totally on grass.

SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toDexy5

Ours is across the green and back then aling the path by the beach, i think ill do ine run a week partly on grass to get used to it

Congratulations on completing Lancing parkrun in a SUB 45 minutes time ✔️✔️, that's a good photo Sue👍

Thanks Al, im still moaning because most people are faster than me

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

There are some runners who moan if they don't come first or don't get a sub 20 minutes 5K time at parkrun or marathon runners who don't get a sub 2 - 3/4 hours time, so don't moan. enjoy your runs 🏃 👍

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toAlMorr

I dont moan a lot and i fet a lot of joy being able to run.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

The main thing is that you enjoy your running, I was reading recently that only around 20/25% of the adult population can run for more than 1 mile without stopping, I am not sure if that's true

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toAlMorr

I think it probably is true Al, i know a lot of adults that cant run for a minute let alone a mile

Congrats on another Parkrun Sue 👍 I had a very mixed day today. I had a bad 100m but a much better 200m.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toRunBrianRun

Thanks Brian, i suppose like not every run, not every race can be great, disappointing for you though. Glad the 200 metres was better

Super! In my entire experience of ONE park run, it was the chats that meant the most. Well, and the fact that many of those non-sprinters who finished early stood on the corner near the end and applauded and cheered the later finishers. That was quite something.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGthants

You will go again, hows your back now?

Gthants profile image
Gthants60minGraduate in reply toSueAppleRun

Much better. Long day working in London yesterday with driving/train/sitting for hours. Very sore indeed by the end of that, but exercise sorted me. A repeat of all that today ...

I had a couple of short runs last week and hope to have three very slightly longer runs (of up to five whole minutes!) this week.

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toGthants

Hopefully you will continue to heal and be able to increase the time running.

I did a new to me Park Run on Saturday. Like you I started too fast - again!!! I think it was because i was in the middle and it was quite crowded at the start. I got pushed along. This one was all on tarmac path but an out and back so a bit narrow when the fast runners were on their way back. Not knowing the course I did struggle a bit even though it wasn't as tough as Trentham. Towards the end my heart started doing a funny flutter so I slowed right down to a walk. It settled down very quickly and I realised I was near the finish so sprinted to the funnel. Not my best time but not the worst either. I'll definitely give this PR another go and as it's so near to home might even have a mid-week run there. Well done on your 44 mins 17 seconds- I'm still aiming for below 45 mins. 😆

SueAppleRun profile image
SueAppleRunGraduate1060minGraduate in reply toBruch1

Well done, going off too fast seems to be a thing, im walking with my neighbour in the morning but might practise running really slow afterwards just for ,5 minutes because what feels slow nowadays is faster than i used to run and i have to walk a bit
