From September I'll be in Birmingham 2 days a week looking after my granddaughter. They moved there yesterday from London and as I was helping them with the move, I thought I'd take the opportunity to explore the area this morning , as I'd arrived at the house the day before to receive the removal van. They live a 15 second walk from a lovely park. So, before babysitting duties I can go for a morning run there! That should give me the energy to look after a toddler!I need to have these plans because I'm going to be so busy! It's been a hectic few days and I'm exhausted, but hopefully I'll run on Friday. Tomorrow will be a complete rest day as I need to recuperate from all the exertions! As well as the move, I took phone calls from my father during breakfast and also from my son who was asking me for advice. I am actually tempted to stay in bed tomorrow and not answer any calls! 🤣

Sounds like a duvet day is in order. It’s hard work being a grandma!

Rest while you are able.. you have no idea of how fast you will be moving as thar small one grows. I am speedier now , six years on from when I took on caring for our small runner in training for two days a week..and not just running.

You are going to have a wonderful time ..enjoy the new location for the runs and enjoy every precious moment with the small one.

Pure joy xxx

It's always good to hear from others who have taken on looking after grandchildren! I'm sure they'll be some jogging around after her!

Oh do stay in bed and rest tomorrow, sounds like you need to. You are busy aren't you?

Yes, and it feels a bit crazy at the moment!

It must do, I used to look after my grands on my days off and although tiring I wouldn't have missed that time for anything, there were 4 in just over 3 years and we still have a special bond almost 20 years later

Wow! Sounds like you are going to be busy. Running in a new place sounds exciting but do take time to look after yourself. It sounds like you will need all the energy you can muster.

Hi, it's great that you have found a lovely park for your morning run. I'm sure you will enjoy that precious time to yourself. Have fun with the little one.

Well you certainly have some big life changes coming up! The location in Birmingham sounds perfect, a lovely park to run around. I’m sure the rest day will help you and you’ll enjoy the life changes that you’ve got planned.

Looking forward to hearing more about it!

And the park even has some uphill sections!

Wow! How lovely to see so much of your granddaughter. So much for retirement from work.. it sounds like your life will be busier than ever. Your family are so lucky to have such an energetic grandma to help out.. I feel like you might be someone who finds it difficult to stay in bed though.

Yes, what happened to 'retirement'. I have to fit in my allotment too!

As they say.. if you want something done, ask a busy woman!

It’s great to be able to fit in your runs even whilst looking after your grandchild! I have found I’m quite tired after my two day stint but it’s my thing to do so perhaps I will get used to it and become super fit !!

Now trying to track Dad to catch him to take for appointment 😬 retirement is demanding !!!

Take care of yourself too apparently self care is a must x

Yes, fitting in my dad and his appointments etc too is demanding. It's good to hear that others in the same stage of life are managing it all! Good food, rest, runs will help.

Very much a sandwich generation (not sure I’ve got the language right) but looking after several different generations. I’m weaning off grandparent duties, from full time to sometimes before and after school. Loved it and were so lucky - some grandparents only see them a few days a year. You’ll love it - can’t deny it might be tiring though. 😆

I think I will love it!
