This morning was drizzly and gloomy. It wasn't quite as bad as yesterday but was uninviting and I very nearly didn't go out at all. Then I realised the rain had stopped and the forecast said I had about an hour before it started again so that was that.

I'm very loosely following the NRC 10k plan. When I say following what I mean is that I'll do one run where we just set a goal for distance and then go, at a speed we both feel comfortable with, and then the next run will be a speed run or similar from the Plan. Today's was Deuces.

My Aftershokz headphones are playing up and I'm in the process of claiming under the warranty so had to use an old pair that came with an ancient phone. For some reason they kept telling me the time (until the guided run started).

The run is a 5 minute warm up then 10 intervals of 2 minutes at 5k pace, with 1 or 2 minute recovery periods. I've been looking at new stretches so tried a few out after the warmup, no idea if it made a difference.

The first interval was the slowest and the last fastest, but in between the speed was reasonably consistent, a little faster than I actually run 5k. About half way through my husband stopped doing intervals and just ran on ahead, and then home, leaving me in the field in glorious isolation. There was nobody at all around, it was kind of nice, just me, the landscape and the wind.

The intervals got harder as the run progressed but I got through it. Once home I decided to try out a Nike Training Club post run cool down (I'm doing the Strength and Conditioning for Runners programme). It was a bit livelier than my normal lying on the floor and doing yoga breathing but it was good to move my core a bit.

I've realised that it actually took me longer than I'd anticipated to recover from my recent cold/flu bug, it's only now that my energy is really returning.

PS I didn't see this llama, my husband took the picture. There's a field with a sign saying to keep dogs on leashes because of the llamas but I rarely see them, they are quite shy. By the time I got to the field this morning I was having to concentrate so hard on the run that they could have had elephants and I wouldn't have noticed 😂

It’s good to hear you’re getting back to health again YLG and the scenery on your runs is gorgeous! But if you ever do see elephants, I insist on you stopping to take a photo!
