Back to my weekly target / audiobook recommendation

Since late summer last year my weekly total run distance target has slipped somewhat. I’m not quite sure why, I‘ve admittedly had a few minor health issues but nothing much that should have made too much difference. I decided in 2023 to try and get back to my weekly target of 20k, so far so good but it has been quite challenging. This might be due to having less stamina due to age (I’m 65) or just that I’ve lost some of my fitness, I’m not sure. On Friday I was running out of days to run and needed to do 8k to meet my target. Well, I did it but it was certainly hard work. Looking back in my run log I notice it’s been over a year since I’ve run that distance so it was quite tough but achieved. Hopefully this coming week I can do a 10k, we will see. A friend shared an audiobook with me he thought I might like – ‘Never Finished’ by David Goggins, not to everybody’s taste but certainly quite motivational when you are struggling with that last km. Hope everybody has a good running week.

Hi orangeguy, I was struggling too today with my last km. Not a fan of running to coaches or music but maybe I'll give the audiobook a try. What happens if you get to an exciting bit, do you carry on running without realising......?🤣

It wasn't quite that motivating 🤣🤣🤣 . . . but when there's a guy talking about doing 100 mile ultra runs and I'm pushing hard to finish my 8k it does push me on 🤣

I use the Nike Run Club app a lot. It’s free so if it’s not for you, easy to delete with no loss. It’s a bit cheesy a fair amount of the time but it’s been the best thing for my running since couch to 5k and got me from 10k to half marathon without it feeling like an insurmountable task. I tend to use their runs with music. There’s a bit of chat and some time to run with your own thoughts/music depending on what you prefer. I’ve found it particularly helpful at the times when I’m looking to increase distance for an event, or just get me back into good habits if things have slipped a bit!

Yes, I've got through quite a few audiobooks running, some good and some not so. Not so good running near main roads with traffic though, it can sometimes get hard to hear but I do prefer solitary off road running anyway 😊
