On Sunday a quick trip to the south coast in the campervan seemed like a brilliant idea. Glorious sunshine, an overnight stay by the seaside then bring our son home from uni for a few days.
Monday was rain all morning so scuppered the plans for sitting on the beach and instead we drove around most of the day, so today I was all aches and pains. Maybe a gentle 5k would help.
It was lovely as we set off, sunny, a gentle breeze and 14c. The paths were a bit muddy from recent rain and the weeds are nearly waist high in places. Took it very easy. The third km is usually the slowest but we were going so slowly anyway it was actually a little faster than normal.
At the 4th km it started raining, just a gentle shower, almost welcome as it was getting quite warm. I sped up, wanting this feeling to continue rather than to get soaked. By the middle of the 5th km it had stopped but I carried on at that pace. I wanted my breakfast.
When I checked the stats, I was a minute quicker in kms 4 and 5 than kms 1 and 2. My VO2 has gone up a point and my age reduced by a year. Maybe I should try running in the rain more often
