Morning all. A few weeks ago I added a post when I had failed a consolidation run and was really doubting whether to hang my trainers up.. I was very low

Well I kept going and want to say thanks to all of you, as I gain such inspiration from reading all the posts. I especially want to thank those that gave me such great tips on the way forward. Someone suggested the Nike Running app and I now use the guided run option every run, I’ve realised my mind is not always my friend and they have a guided run with a coach and a headspace coach - I’ve found these guided runs really work for me. I ran 30 mins again yday, walked for a bit and then ran for another 5 mins! For the first time, I actually enjoyed a run and am looking forward to tomorrows. It’s taken nearly a year for me to feel the love of running that others talk about and Hope I’ve turned a corner. Thanks again.

ps sorry for the long post!

Have a happy and peaceful Easter

Well done you. Honestly your mind makes such a difference when running. Sometimes we have to tell our minds to shut up 🤐. But sometimes it can be our friend too and stops us from over doing it. The key is to keep moving even if that is with a quick walk break. Most of my runs are absolutely awful, but I’m always happy after my run. Then every now and then following all the training and hard work you have a unicorn 🦄 run. That is a run where you feel really comfortable, and could run at a good pace for as long as you want. Unfortunately they are rare but so so worth the journey to find.

Well done for pushing through. The NRC runs have taught me so much about running, they're so helpful if you need a bit of encouragement.

Agree. This week I’ve been listening to the guided run with headspace coach and for me, very useful. Just back and feeling good 😊

That’s so good to hear 😊. The mind is a funny old thing, isn’t it. The NRC runs have helped me no end I have to say! Well done 😁.

Thank you. My mind definitely is a ‘funny thing’ that plays havoc sometimes!! I’m very grateful to whoever suggested the app and like you, find it’s so helpful 😊

I just saw this post so wanted to reply, a little late I know. I remember your post, you sounded so much like me! I’m thrilled that you’ve found something you enjoy! Yay! Congratulations!

Thank you for taking the time to reply and for your good wishes. I’m a bit evangelical about this Nike app as I think without it, I would’ve stopped. There may be a day when I can run without a coach but, in the meantime this is exactly what I need 😊

Well done picking it back up. A bad run can be so deflating and knock your confidence, so getting back up on the horse again, so to speak, is important.

Equally important is the recognition of the fact that no run you actually set out on is a fail. OK, so maybe you didn't run as far or for as long as you'd planned, but you still ran, and it's still distance in the legs and time not spent on the couch.

It's easy to beat yourself up when things don't go as planned, but a 15minute run when you planned to do 30, or a 3k run when you wanted to do 5 are still runs. It may not feel like it in the immediate aftermath, but there are always positives to be taken, even if sometimes it's just recognising the fact sometimes it's just not there.

The best thing about the post—graduate phase is that you are now free to do your own thìng and make your own rules, so just celebrate each run for what it is, i.e. time spent being active;and as damienair said above, sometimes those 'unicorn' runs do happen.
