March Quest Week 3 🌸 My Machine got mashed, but the Marvellous Mojo marches on!!!

Hey all!

⭐ How's your Quest so far? Tell us all about it in the comments!!! 😍

Well, I managed a couple of rides on the indoor bike last week, trying out some tabata-style intervals. It was a lot of fun, but seemingly too much for the bike - I was merrily powering up for a 20 second hard interval and suddenly BAM!!! πŸ’₯ the bike chain snapped and went flying 😱😱😱

Luckily no-one was hurt, and the cats were not in the room πŸ™€

Unfortunately this week the Mojo IS willing but the flesh is weak, cos I have a throat infection πŸ˜ͺ I'm into Day 2 of Duvet Derby - wish me luck!!!

Aaaaanyway. We had a couple of new Questers join us last week - hi Oldgirlruns and GoogleMe!!!

⭐ And - anyone else interested? There's still plenty of time to join with a Quest! The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest month (see the link to the Week 1 post below for more info).

Have a fabulous week!

Hi Roseabi, the weather is improving and I'm full of the joys of spring :)I did my Parkrun on Saturday so that's one box ticked.

I'm off traveling again on Thursday, staying with my sister on a Greek island for 10 days. This may well impact my running plans as (a) the weather forecast is worse there than it is for the UK and (b) it's very very very hilly, she lives on a hill with what must be a 1:10 gradient. To think that just a few short weeks ago I was bemoaning the fact that there was nowhere to do my hill start intervals πŸ˜‚

As to doing 50km this month, I'm on 28.21km so far so it's eminently doable providing I can find somewhere sufficiently flat to make it feasible. My brother in law used to go running every day until he broke both his legs and was told to stop so I'll be getting his advice.

Realistically my only chance to run 10km will be tomorrow (unlikely) or when I get back. I'll keep you posted.

Good luck to my fellow Questers!!

Hey Rosebi, bad news about the chain - fortunately you can pick one up at a reasonable price and get back on the bike!

I tested positive for Covid this weekend - like many I know at the moment, so have taken it easy - but fortunately I haven't had it bad so I am still going!

Now up to:

45Km of 100Km running this month

255Km of 500Km riding this month

I am going to push back the strength training till I feel stronger but otherwise glad I am still on track.

Good luck everyone!

Hey Thommo!

Yep, I have just been looking at bike chains - I would most certainly feel happier with a new one!!

Well done, and I'm glad to see you weren't brought down by the virus xxx

Hi roseabi. Thanks for the ping.

This month is nearly half done. The Ides of March are on us today.

My aim this month has been to extend a little without injury. Last Monday I did sustain an injury. I tripped, face-planted on the pavement and scraped my forehead. I got dragged off to a nearby high school by a passing teacher (head of year 9, apparently) and was patched up by one of the admin staff. That's all healed now.

I thought I'd extend my range on Sunday. I'd done seven HM distances over six months and thought it a good time to try to inch a little further.

On Sunday I went for and achieved 24km of running. It was almost as if winter decided to let me know it wasn't quite finished: I got hailed on and then was drenched by freezing cold rain. Did it stop me? Of course not!

However, a combination of end-of-life shoes and the chill of damp leggings meant my left leg muscles (especially the hamstring group) weren't happy when the afternoon started to cool off properly.

Anyway, I completed it. Yesterday I did a rest day walk of about 5km, but found that about half way round that walking downhill was very uncomfortable behind and above my left knee. Then a lightbulb went off. The last time this sort of thing had happened was when I was running in old shoes in April last year.

Immediately those shoes are retired. I got nearly 820km out of them. Next set of newer shoes is put out ready for my next run.

This morning I did another walk of similar length. The legs are much better. I may even brave a short jog this afternoon when the day warms up a bit.

It all depends on how the rest of the week pans out whether I keep things light or press on to trying for 26.2km this weekend.

You're welcome!

Brrrr well done, and happy new shoes!!!

Atb for your metric marathon this weekend xxx

Oh my god, your kitty look soooo much like my Lily! I have 1 naked kitty named Sierra of 16 years old. She is the one with the health issues. She is with us since she was 16 weeks old. And since about 2,5 years we have Lily with us, whom we took over from her previous owner. She is guessed to be around 13 years old now. But she look sooo much like your kitty with the white hairs on the chest! Does your kitty have a white belly too by any chance?

So as for my quest, all is going well to be honest! I have so far been running (on my treadmill) 3 times a week, following the Start 2 Run app. Normally today is a running day, but I am off this afternoon to get my 4-weekly IV against rheumatic arthritis, so I shift the running to tomorrow as I don't know if it is ok to exercise after my IV.

I am actually enjoying my runs on the treadmill, that is if my wifi and tablet and Spotify are working. If any of the holy three does not work, it is less fun. So fingers crossed that they keep working at all times! So I am still slowly working my way up again to longer runs, because I do feel that after 3 months of no running, my condition has deteriorated. While in November running 10K / 85 minutes was no biggy, I now dread the thought of running for 85 minutes (and on the treadmill 10K will take much longer still). But there is no pressure, so I just keep plodding away!

Nucky only has a tiny bit of white on her belly - we call it her bikini pants πŸ˜‚ How is Sierra doing? We have a 16 year old cat too, Noodles, she is three-legged and has lost some mobility in the past year but is still fine otherwise 🀞

Hope you feel OK after the IV, and 🀞🀞🀞 for the holy trinity!!! Well done for such a successful Quest so far xxx

in reply to roseabi

I added a pic of Sierra and Lily here. The pic of Sierra is an old one though. She is sooo skinny at the moment. Thanks for asking about her. Unfortunately she is not doing too well, but we don't know if it is her stomach (IBD), pancreas (chronic pancreatitis) or thyroid (hyperthyroid) acting up. She had a check-up this morning and the good news is that her blood pressure looks to be under control (it was increased due to the meds). Now fingers crossed that her thyroid values are also ok, we will know tomorrow. Really don't want to increase her meds, she got seizures from a higher dose.

Hey Abi!

Yesterday, for the second time this year, I was too hot while running. This means that the nice winter day tops are now to be put away with the it’s bloody freezing tops, hopefully to not be needed again this year. Short sleeves and thin long sleeve UV blocking tops all the way now… which makes me smile, not because I like the summer (I really don’t) but simply because getting wet out there now becomes a pleasure again!

Run streak and strengthening (kinda) streak still alive and well. Was thinking of going 100 days (April 7th) with the streak, but the longer it goes the better I’m feeling, so maybe I’ll aim for 365 instead.

Hey Neil!

I'm glad to see you're enjoying the running again, but why do you hate summer??

Awesome! I can just see you, 8 years on... 😊😊😊

The mornings are still a bit cold (eg. 3Β°C at 8am tomorrow), at least round this bit of SE Lancs, but it's getting near to the point where a lunchtime run is tee shirt and shorts territory.

Hello hello hello! Bummer about the indoor biking chain…. Yeah … I heard indoor rowers are sooo much more endurable!

πŸ˜‰ Might be time to start thinking about quadrathlons (does that word exist? Does the sport exist? If not, it should. Would love to see people biking, running, swimming and rowing! How awesome that would be ….)

(…. Ok ok I know, I’m getting carried away here…..)

My quest after last week’s three green ticks βœ…βœ…βœ… came shuddering to an abrupt halt as COVID got to me and forced me into a horizontal, bed position for 5 days.

So yesterday was my first out of bed experience and I did a tiny row!

But still positive and quite weak today.

My plan is to start my post-covid recovery with rowing, as it’s easier to build up.

Add daily yoga in a few days.

And then get back to my running plan, as I’m already envious of all the good weather everyone seems to be experiencing.

I’ll get there. Slowly and bit by bit.

Hello hello hello hello!! 😊 Time for a new chain...

I did consider a little personal event like that at one point! It was going to be called the "Dudeathlon" and it was something like 0.4 km swimming, 4 km running, 4 miles biking, and some other distance involving the number 4 (I can't remember) on a stand up paddleboard. I didn't get around to it, but I haven't forgotten about it... πŸ˜‚

Yay for out of bed experiences!!! Well done, and all the best for the rest of the month + beyond xxx

Really sorry to hear about the duvet derby from the throat infection.I am enjoying hearing about turbo exploits as I bought one for MrGM after he expressed an interest... but he has never so much as tried it. Plenty of other bums have though thank goodness - my younger son does it as part of his sensory diet prescribed by his OT.

Things are looking reasonably perky with my Quest goals:

1) five yoga sessions ticked off... so I hope I'll carry on rather than savasana on my laurels...

2) two vegan days ticked off (if you count the "I can't believe he's buttered that" one... but perhaps I'll see if I can get one or two more in before the end of the month. The hard bit is my two mugs of coffee in the morning as I just don't much enjoy those black (even though I'll often drink coffee black at other times)

3) 2/5 runs down in just right sunshine both times, and both back to old haunts, which was an added pleasure (and pain, not having G with me - we went past the place we did what proved to be her last sighted walk on Sunday) Short, but long enough to feel still in the game.

Oh good, I'm glad it's getting some use - I love having ours available! Although I'm a bit scared of it right now πŸ˜‚

Wow, good on you - keep it up, I'll be watching 😊😊😊

Get well soon, roseabi . That’s snapping chain sounds positively dangerous. You smashed your training session and the bike mashed. It clearly can’t cope with your super-advanced fitness.

I’m on track with my daily ankle strengthening routine, and I’m now full phased over to the tougher variants (changing up the colour of the theraband; doing one where I slowly lower from tiptoe fully on one leg). I get 10/10 here. I’ll get my new scaled-up exercises next week. I’m still not fitting in the daily walk, however. I’m a bit annoyed with myself about that as it definitely helps - in all sorts of ways - and I like to walk. Things have been crazy with work but that’s no excuse. This must be a mojo thing, or lack thereof. I’d find it far easier to motivate myself to get out and run. More generally, I’m so missing my running.

Wishing fellow Questing VRBs the best fit the coming week.

Thank goodness no -one or small creature was injured in the accident! Hopefully the throat is continuing to improve also!

Well...Quest wise... it's slow and it's steady, but it is getting me there :)

Week 3 on Magic Plan was completed... the 7K seemed to last for ever with road works and stop/starts but 'tis done.

Week 4... Two runs down, including one fighting the sands of the wild Welsh Coastline... Run 3, 8K is to come and fingers crossed it will be here in Wales.

It is good to know that there are quite a few of us repeating Magic Plan again , sort of comforting to know we don't run alone.

Like a few others it may stretch out a bit longer than the 8 Weeks, but if I can make 10K again, that will be a huge spirit lifter!

Happy safe Questing everyone!x

Well last week went fine, not so sure about this one though !Two runs done. One was out of my comfort zone trying out the NRC app for probably the third time and at least this time the couch didn't annoy me so much that I stopped it which is whats happened previously. I may even try another one 😊

Physio done and six days of either Pilates or Yoga

Hello @roseabi and fellow questers. sorry to hear about your bike chain but glad to hear no one was injured and that your cats were ok πŸ™‚. I really enjoyed yesterday's warmer weather to run in but still wore a buff to protect my throat. I'm happy with the way my quests have gone this week although there is room for improvement:1) Yes - still doing garmin coach 10k training with Amy for my race in April

2) Yes - have run 3 times this week

3) No - cross train twice a week - just haven't the energy to do anything apart from my running at the moment

4) On track - run 2 parkruns and volunteer at 1. Have run 1 and volunteered at 1 so far

5) Yes - warm up longer than usual - I am doing this although still managed to pull a calf muscle. No - do strength exercises - haven't done any this week

6) On track - run my easy runs at much slower pace - meant to say at low heart rate. My last few runs have been in heart rate zones, 1,2,3 and not 4 and 5 but need to spend less time in heart rate zone 3 and just stick to zones 1 and 2

7) No - get 8 hours sleep a night. Not managing this yet. More like 6 or 7 hours a night.

Maybe if I get enough sleep I won't be so tired that I can't cross train and do my strength exercises.

Thanks so much for keeping us accountable. It's also very interesting to read how other questers are getting on.

Happy questing everyone!
