β How are you going with your Quests? Tell us all about it in the comments!!! π
I managed a tiny bike ride outside, where I encountered an extremely marvellous machine! A huge barge called the Terra Marique was in the docks at Southwick, carrying a cargo of electronic parts for the National Grid, a man told me π robertwynnandsons.co.uk/our...
And I've been enjoying some tunes while spinning on my indoor bike - so much fun!! I looked online for some HIIT workouts to try. I was joined by my husband as he played his piano; for some reason he's not put off by my huffing and puffing behind him (he does wear headphones) π Pic is the bike with piano - please excuse the mess!
β There's still plenty of time to join with a Quest - what's yours?
Perhaps as bigger camera π, we've a teeny weeny barge compared with your offering, it collects the wings from the airbus factory and floats off around the river until it meets a larger vessel with other plane bits then it all goes to the factory for assembly, it only scrapes under the blue bridge (which no longer lifts as it's out of commission) on low tide levels on the river Dee!!!
I love the idea of personalized musical accompaniment to your exercise βΊοΈ I had to double check exactly what I said my quest was .. not a good start. But on checking I seemed to have done ok.
HILLS : I made a point of trying out some hill intervals on my first run last week. Weirdly I found it easier on the steeper hills. On my long run on Sunday I remembered how I used to use Mantras to help regulate my breathing back when I was consolidating C25k. So I tried this again and it definitely helped β
10k's : I was really pleased on Sunday when my longer run ended up at 10k when my feet decided that they wanted to run a bit further than I planned. βΊοΈβ
PHYSIO: Two lots of physio exercises doneβ
So all good so far AND I've remembered to reply to your post π
Good morning roseabi , obviously a very creative household :)I didn't do my 10k on 4th March but I did 4+ km on Thursday and 7 km yesterday so it's what my Mum would have called 'within the octave'.
The sun is shining, the paths round here seem to be drying out and I enjoyed yesterday's run so much that the idea of 10km seems very appealing.
That barge is so impressive, we get big ships from time to time in our river but nothing quite as innovative as that!
Well done, it's great to see you're enjoying your runs π
I had seen the barge out at sea earlier in the day and wondered about it, so I was quite thrilled to find it at the lock later on! I love seeing the different sea vessels passing, and it's great to be able to find out about them online - I'm turning into a boat nerd π
The quest is still on. My medium length weekday runs are creeping longer: 12km and 14km. I'm even finishing some runs with a hill climb.
I had a little tumble yesterday, but apart from light bruising and cuts above my left eyebrow I'm OK. It's not going to stop me. I've been relatively lucky. That's only my third fall in nearly two years.
In other news, my current set of running shoes has just hit 800km, and I'm just starting to see the forefoot tread wearing down in the usual place. Time to start thinking of retiring them.
Now I'm comfortable with doing regular half marathons, my next target is to get to the Metric Marathon distance (26.2km), but I'll do it gradually. There's no rush.
My quest is going strong at this moment. I have managed 3 runs in the past week, following the Start 2 Run plan week 1, which is alike C25K. Installed my Runn sensor, which I love sooo much and whenever my Wifi is working along, I can be diverted during my run by treadmill video's. I did not think so, but I actually do enjoy my runs on my treadmill. Who would have guess that!
Run 4 (or run 1 of the week) is planned for today, but after work I first have to help my mom to get an order of 40 kg of cat food, 2 carriers and a bunch of blankets to our animal clinic. They are collecting such things to drive to Ukraine to help the animal shelters in need. It's a bit much for 1 person to drop off alone, so I am going to help. Crossing fingers that I will have enough time afterwards to fit my run in and a shower!
That is really good, I'm glad you're enjoying the treadmill runs. How lovely to be helping those animal shelters, well done! Sounds like a good strength workout too π
That all looks exciting! My quest is not really a quest at the moment! Too much questing with trying to finish my numerous large projects at work before retiring at the start of May!My running has therefore taken a back seat and I'm just keeping my runs ticking over, just trying to do what I can around everything else! So no plans or quests for me at the moment.
Come May, well, the world's my oyster. Am hoping not to feel so unmotivated!
Well, I took it slow the first week of this quest so managed to get all things put forward done:
β take it gentle first week, up from my running injury couch stint
β take out my new Altra Lone Peak 5 Trail shoes for a gentle run-walk this week (yeah, that felt great!)
And my original quest from last week was βand then my quest for this month is by week 5 have started on C25k again!β, but I started on my Zombie version of C25k on Last Sunday with its own Week #0! This entailed a bit of easy walk-run-walking in my new Altra Lone Peaks and reconnecting with my inner Runner No 5 (of Zombie, Run fame). So huge β β β ahead of time.
So hope my metatarsals will allow me to keep on going! So good, so far!
That certainly looks and sounds like a terrific set up... and well done on that ride too!
I just found a few more photos of that barge... wow!!!! It is incredible!
Well Quest wise, I am keeping on, keeping on... slow and steady, but enjoying.
I managed Week 3 Run 2 on Saturday; it should have been a beach Park Run but as the PR was cancelled, it ended up as a slightly muddy, but very beautiful , other run.
I think I may have found it a tad more enjoyable than the PR, as a high Spring tide would have made the route very deep and sandy! The tide should be lower this week.
It was a super run on many levels, and one of those runs that, although only 5K was one where I was just in the zone. Nothing existing except the world and me running.
It took me longer than a 5k should, (37 minutes), but I blame the muddy bit for that
Hoping to get Run 3 done before the weekend !
Happy, safe, Questing everyone

Sheβs a big girl that barge isnβt she roseabi! My quest this month is to finish my C25K-Revisited - Iβm on week 8 so canβt see it being a problem (unless I fall onto the IC!) and Iβm enjoying the longer runs, even if Iβm no quicker than the first time I did it in 2019! If weβre on the subject of barges, hereβs a pic of a barge in our harbour last week carrying a wind turbine blade from the Isle of Wight where it was made.
Great pic! We have a windfarm locally and they brought all the turbines in by river as the roads are too narrow and winding for something that size. They built a dedicated jetty then dismantled it once the turbines were up. You'd never even know it had been there now!
Week two going nicely. Third set of Strength & Flex week one done yesterday evening in the universityβs sports park, which is just a 5 minute walk from my house.
I really enjoy listening to Laura again as well as the tranquility that - at least for me - comes with S&F.
I managed to run 8miles on Monday and realised that actually my quest to run 10 miles by the end of the month is actually achievable!!πββοΈπ
Just in from Run 72 on day 71 of my run streak. Time to start cranking the miles back up as a lot in February were short.
Managed an hour of strengthening work in week 1 of the monthβ¦ which is lower than I usually do, but Iβm trying to be more consistent week on week now, so thatβs allowed!
Hello @roseabi and fellow questers. Well done on getting your bike rides in! Thanks so much for keeping as accountable. My quests this week have gone as follows:1) YES - resumed garmin coach 10k training plan
2) YES - run 3 times a week. Actually ran 4
3) NO - cross train twice a week
4) YES on track- run 2 parkruns and volunteer at 1 - have run 1 parkrun this month so far
5) YES - warm up longer than usual - N/A- do strength exercises as slow pace (haven't done any strength exercises this week)
6) NO apart from 1 run - run my easy runs at a much slower pace so I don't burnout and build up aerobic fitness. Really meant quest to say run at a lower heart rate rather than at a slower pace. With each run I am managing to run at lower heart rate though.
7) NO - get 8 hours sleep a night. I really need to discipline myself to switch off my gadgets before midnight. :
Looking to continue and improve my quests this coming week
Made the 7K run Magic Plan, yesterday... it was a stop/start, dodging roadworks, traffic and closed pavements run.
I was so flustered as I could not get into my happy pace, but...I blinking well did it... and yes it was slow, ( not that speed matters a jot), but only because for the trying to cross roads bits!
I felt very grumpy for a while, but as I headed back down towards home, the sun shone, I breathed easier and I was satisfied. Week 4 Here I come! Hoping to get a 5K in at the Plas Heli Park Run if it is not cancelled
Late to the update - apologies! Are you using an online programme with the bike rosabi?
I am at 33Km of 100Km running and 155Km of 500Km of riding. I haven't done much else as work has been busy but glad I am on track for my main objectives.
Hi roseabi I did update, just after Hidden - a rare early catch up for me! But my reply has totally evaporated. I hope thatβs not a sign. π€£
I recall saying that you need not apologise as thatβs not a mess in your photo but a hardworking space for pursuing passions. Beautiful, just in a very different way to Homes Beautiful (etc)! The barge is amazing. What a phenomenon to encounter on your outing.
Anyway, to catch up: Iβm doing great with my strengthening exercises: not a day missed, and Iβm gradually phasing these to their slightly tougher versions (more lowering heels on the one bad side, rather than on two feet, eg). Iβve been less consistent with my plan to walk daily: Iβve missed some; did more than planned on other days; substituted one with a go on a rower.
I'm laaaaaaaate. Sorry, sorry... attempted some rationalisation on this but fundamentally I don't know why I'm so late - I had some asterisked items in my March Micro Plan/Review, which is how I mark my HU Quest goals (I think there's limited interest here in whether I use up my eye cream or get a birthday card in the post to a friend...)
A compact and bijou selection this time: 5 runs, 5 yoga practices and 2 vegan days. I thought the runs would be the easiest thing (judging by previous months) but I am fairly behind on that, the yoga has surprised me as I am 3 practices in (is it creeping back as a regular thing?) and I am counting myself as one vegan day down as MrGM buttering my toast before putting baked beans on it was a surprise (I mean, why would you do that?)
