I forgot about mud!

With all the drama in my life recently I've managed to go a week without a run but I'm home now so no excuse.

Woke to a lovely sunny morning (definitely no excuse). Husband said we had too much to do to go for a run but was easily persuaded so off we trotted.

It was so warm! For the first time in months I was just wearing a long sleeved running top and leggings, no hat, gloves or jumper. It felt so freeing. Did my usual 0.5 km warm up walk which takes me to the start of the path across the fields. Mr OBK had run on ahead of me and was off in the distance and as soon as I set foot on the path I thought 'I've completely forgotten about mud'. There was hardly any grass to run on, just mud and puddles, running on sandy soil for five weeks has spoiled me for Essex clay.

As I slowly and carefully continued I saw husband turning back. When he reached me he told me it got worse further on so we turned back and ran on the road. This isn't my favourite surface but it was wonderful to be outside in the spring sunshine admiring the scenery.

When we set off I decided that this would be a shorter recovery type run. I only did 4.1 km in 33:47 before deciding I'd done enough, I needed to get some bread and milk for breakfast and wanted to have a minute before going into the shop.

All in all it felt pretty good. Tomorrow's my runniversary but I don't plan to run, I'm hoping to do Parkrun on Saturday and don't want to run 3 days in a row.

Well done for getting out there. Last Friday last time I ran, restarting the C25K my knees haven’t exactly been great, I’m a bit nervous about making things worse with them (osteoarthritis).

I've got an arthritic knee but it seems a lot better since I started running. I try and run on softer surfaces, preferably short grass, and as long as I do my stretches all seems pretty good so far!

Sounds positive, are the stretches you do the cooling down stretches ?I ran mainly on paths, gravelled roads which probably didn’t help my problem, I should start running in the fields and woods near me rather than the roads.

Thanks for the feed back.

I do dynamic stretches beforehand and always walk at least 0.5km/ 5 minutes to get myself moving. Afterwards I do static stretches and sometimes the Nike Training Club 10 minute runners restorative sequence if I'm feeling keen. Occasionally I forget and the next day I feel a bit achy (maybe it's my age 😂)Soft surfaces are much kinder, I feel every jolt on tarmac.
