I'm going to test if I can run tomorrow morning. I don't feel ill....just weird and have no voice (occupational causes I suspect). I did so well running all through January but had a slight cold week before last got better and then lost my voice last Tuesday. I feel like running, but am a bit scared whether getting out of breath will affect my voice any more. So will go very carefully! Edit ...should add I don't have any pain in my throat either!

Hope it goes well Cowladyrunning . You teach don't you? So hard on the voice. One of my hobbies is singing, and retiring from teaching has improved the quality of my voice so much!
If your test is clear and you feel well, you should be fine.Getting out of breath won't affect your voice, but talking will affect it.
I eventually had no choice, but to take medical retirement from teaching, as the job was a main contribution to recurrent laryngitis and was causing scarring of the voice box.
That was my experience.
You know how you feel...and if you test and if all is well., head out and just take it slow and steady.
Yes I've been testing very regularly because of caring for mother in law too. I will have a go. Sorry you had that experience with laryngitis too. I know it is something I must take care of. I did stop teaching for a while and noticed massive health improvements, but I keep getting pulled back.... its a bit addictive too! π¬
It is a horrid thing, and in the later months of my teaching I did have pain, not sore throat type, but a dull ache. And I literally had no voice, no sound at all, not even a squeak, which was when I was sent to a consultant.
There is, or was, a facility which was available that involved a head speaker.. you know like a keep fit instructor would wear, to amplify the voice, but after my consultation, I am afraid that it was going to be no use to me as damage had already occurred
When my eldest daughter was 21 , I had no voice at all for her celebrations, all the prep and on the day, I had to use a notepad!
I really hope you are clear, especially with your role as a carer too! You will be great as you head to that 10K !
Hi Cowladyrunning. I worked in schools for many years (admin not teaching) but always remember a teacher saying to me it was really important for teachers to keep their necks warm to protect their voice. She had a wonderful scarf collection and very creative scarf tying skills! Also lots of polo necks in her wardrobe!. I heard a few teachers reiterate her advice x
You're not a Cow Lady at the moment: you're a little hoarse. π€£
(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
