A great run but with new problems!

Yesterday was a lovely day here in the Algarve (apologies to those who were being battered by storm Eunice) and I set out to complete week 6 of Ju Ju's magic plan. I'm currently aiming to get to 60 minutes before moving up to 10K so yesterday's run was 55 minutes (7K for me). I did it! My furthest and longest run so far - felt fantastic at the achievement (this time last year I had just finished week 4 of C25K).

BUT... new problems. The first was chafing, I now have a nasty red welt on my inner upper arm from rubbing against my running top that I wear on a regular basis. The second and more worrying is a pain between my left hip and groin, not sure how long I will need to rest it before heading out again but I'm determined to get there.

Ooh lucky you being in the Algarve! And being able to run yesterday! Not sure any of us here in the UK got out to run yesterday 😳

Very well done on your 55 minutes, that’s brilliant. It won’t be long before you can ask for a badge 🤗

Chafing is really painful and it’s usually when the shower hits it that you really notice 😖 Lots of runners use Bodyglide bodyglide.com but I use just Vaseline. Perhaps your top is too loose, hence the rubbing. But a smear of Vaseline or bodyglide before you run should sort out the problem.

The pain you describe sounds as if it might be tight hip flexors. Are you stretching afterwards? And are you stretching your hip flexors specifically? As you increase distance these are some of the muscles that will tighten quicker. Try these exercises to see if that helps at all. Don’t run for a few days but stretch and then if everything feels ok try a gentle run. Fingers crossed for you 🤞

Thanks for the advice and encouragement! I do stretches but maybe need to concentrate more on the specific area. 😀

Ouch, that sounds like a hip flex issue. I had a bout of problems with my left hip flexor quite recently. The exercises via the link are good. I now swear by pigeon pose., but working on strengthening core and glutes will help too.Good lucj

The pigeon pose is one of the best 👍

❤️ pigeon pose…. I go to a Pilates class every Saturday, and the instructor knows that I do my long runs (8 or 10k depending on how I’m feeling) on a Sunday…. She incorporates pigeon pose into the class, that then morphs into the sleeping pigeon, that is now morphing into King pigeon pose 🤣🤣 - and the times for those runs is coming down too - an added benefit 🤣

King pigeon pose! I'll have to look that one up! I manage sleeping pigeon, but am intrigued!
