After 4 months of RED running I ran less frequently over Christmas and promptly got injured 😁 I did nip it in the bud, spotting the warning signs and stopped running. 4 - 6 weeks, I read is how long runners knee takes to heal, but after 3 weeks I was out jogging, tentatively and slowly. If I needed to go across town I would jog there and back, wearing hiking gear - that kind of thing.

The last couple of weeks I've resumed running, 3 or 4 times a week. I used to run 6.25 km every day, bookended with 0.5 K warm up / warm down. Now I've just rolled the bookend into my run, making it 7.3 K

Today was a good one. Mild and overcast, but as I left icy cold rain and hail began. I passed a dog walker sheltering under a tree in full winter garb, who raised her eyebrows at the mad bloke in skimpy running gear. πŸ˜‚

Like my Dad before me, I don't feel the cold, but the rain and hail slamming into the side of my head and neck were intensely painful and I was about to give up when they began to ease off. 😎

From then on it was all good, just the usual dawdling cyclists, and a dog walker engrossed in his phone with his dog straining at the leash.

Near the end I had a civilised discussion with a van driver who I don't think is up on the latest changes to the law. As he turned into the side road he sounded a surprisingly loud horn and made a wtf?! gesture. In the moment I yelled "Highway Code!" and carried on my way without breaking stride.

Overall, pleased to be back in the saddle; run was very comfortable and middle 5K at 5:45 min / km so happy with that, and "Garmin" VO2 back up one point at 46, having been knocked down from 51 at the end of December. πŸ˜€

Definitely a comeback run! Well done.

I’m with you about the hail. I wish I’d worn sunglasses in a winter race once because my eyes were sore after running through hail 😎

Thanks IP! Yes - I imagine the hail is how Japanese water torture might feel. 😎

I've had a few H2 encounters recently, too!

The highest VOβ‚‚Max I had was 51 too, back in the heatwave in July when I was running only short distances (due to heat and humidity).

It's nice that we have similar V02; if only my pace was also similar to yours! 🀣

Actually, we're not that far off pace-wise. My run last night averaged 5'49"/km.
