I was up quite early as I had a lot to do this morning. On with my running gear and out of the door. It was extremely foggy so I kept to a route with a footpath.
Three quarters of way through my run and onto a straight bit of road. There was quite a bit of traffic on the road for that time of day and I had to double check it was not later than I had thought.
Just before the junction where I turn left to make my way home there is a crossroads where a single track unmade road that crosses the main road. I am always wary of this junction as cars often shoot across when they see a break in the traffic on the main road. As I checked I just saw a car approaching from the track on the other side of the road with no lights on. Plenty of time for me to cross before they get to the junction so across I went. I turned to head home as a van approached the junction, again with no lights on. Another idiot I thought!
A second or two later there is an almighty bang behind me. I turned and there was the van with the car I had just seen next to it in the main road. I ran over to see if everyone was OK and could see bits of debris on the road. Both drivers got out and started shouting at each other. They then saw me and one asked if I was OK (I can only think he thought I had been close to the crash) . I said I was and had only come back to check on them. One asked if he could take my details as a witness. I explained I didn't actually see the accident but gave them both my details anyway. I think the van pulled out in front of the car from the positions and probably not seen the car. Anyway, they didn't seem to need me any more so I left.
I was feeling a bit cold by then so walked a bit before starting to run again. If I had had more time I would have extended my run but had to get home. Another run ruined!!
A bit of a rush to get showered and the little ones ready but we left home on time. As we drove along, there must have been 50% of the cars with no lights on and they could barely be seen. I wonder how may other accidents there were today?
