Heavy 5K with negative splits

Hiya,

Today was a run day, but I was really not in the mood. The weather is greyer than grey, really depressing. I wanted to crawl on the couch under my blanket with my knitting. But it was a run day, so out I went.

Took another road to my starting spot in order to avoid the creepy old guy. I think I will use this road from now on.

Already from the start the run felt heavy. My legs just did not feel like running. Afterwards I noticed I had started too fast. Anyhow, I kept running.

Came on the path between the trees and it was muddy. I have to find another road that also brings me to 5K while avoiding the mud. Because when it rains a bit more, the path is at 1 spot fully drowned without a way around.

Kept going, speeding up a couple of times to pass some walkers. Finished my 5K in 42:20 with - to my great surprise - negative splits. I really thought I was going slower after the first kilometer, but look and behold: 8:51 - 8:40 - 8:38 - 8:12 - 7:55.

Hope my next run will be easier though...

Cheers, Evy

Well done to you Evy on getting out for that 5K run dispite the dull weather, congratulations on those negative splits, have you got your Christmas stuff organised or not even began with the Xmas 🎄 🎅 preparations?

in reply to AlMorr

I got my presents already ready mid November 😉. Christmas tree was set up yesterday and today decided with my mom on the Christmas and New Year dinner. So all set up ☺.

Aww, those difficult runs define us! Well done in going our tho you didn't feel like it. I recognize that sofa/knitting feeling too well.

in reply to Mormor1

Thanks oh and add in a cat or 2 to that sofa too 😉

Yay behold those negative splits! Well done, getting out when all we want to do is crawl under our duvet is hard, but you did it. I felt the same yesterday, and got a bit lost, which is ridiculous 🤣. Well done again 😊😊😊.

in reply to Frenc

Thank you, I was really more than surprised that I got negative splits. I honestly thought I was slowing down with every K!

I'd take that run any day. My legs feel heavy because what they are carrying!

Great negative splits for weary legs. Weather a wee bit milder no frost and no slippy roads, as you say dull, depressing (dreich ) in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

in reply to Doris8

Thanks and I gotta remember that word to curse the weather. Dreich weather!

Well done to you Hidden …sometimes those runs just feel hard & have no attraction whatsoever…but you still went & now that I’ve read this I’m going on my run now, even though it’s chucking it down & 8:30 at night…it’ll just be a short one…not only have you smashed your run with negative splits, you’ve inspired me, & prob not only me, today so thank you for that 😊😉

in reply to Mummycav

Oh eh you're welcome? Though I would not immediately thank someone for pushing me outside at night in the pouring rain for a run 😹

It’s those hard runs that make us stronger and perfect negative splits, hope the next run feels easier

in reply to SueAppleRun

I hope so too. Next run should be today, but still not feeling 'it'...

I might have to eat those words of mine, this mornings run was hard work and not even very fast, I experimented with lengthening m stride and when i checked it was shorter than ever, by the end of todays run I was ready to say it’s time to quit ☹️I don’t know if it’s mid winter or if we just aren’t quite well but enjoy your non run day Evy

in reply to SueAppleRun

Today is a run day... but still not feeling it. I was thinking to try a really slow run, Niko Niko Slow Jogging slow. Maybe I'd enjoy that more? The only problem is that I find it VERY hard to force myself to slow down (even more).

Well a run always lifts our spirits, so it might be worth going out for a short one, have a good day whatever you do
