Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
parkrun is back thankfully in most Countries around the World. I am hoping for any Countries still struggling with COVID-19 that it returns to you soon.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Cancelled! π¨ π¨ I canβt say Iβm disappointed and I donβt fancy driving around to find one which is on. Instead Iβm off to the common for dog jog.
Stay safe everyone. β€οΈ
Edited to add:
I ran a (not) PR and I was so cold afterwards I had to sit in the car with my fingers in the heating vents before I could drive home! π π₯Ά The wind was 52.3 kph up there, and my jacket acted like a space shuttle parachute when I was running into it! Not sure I enjoyed it much, but Flossie got a walk and I felt vaguely righteous β¦.
I was in Bristol with work on Thursday and yesterday. I drove past Ashton Court on the way out to the Airport. Pity yours was canceled, but better not to be out in awful weather.
I must admit I was fairly relieved to see it cancelled this morning Damien. I didnβt even try any of the others - and Ashton Court went ahead Iβve since found out!
You could have popped in for a cuppa - we live very near the airport and the planes take off and land over the common where I run! βοΈ
I have thanks OGR. Eastville Park was strewn with branches and I guess there was the health and safety hazard of being blown into the lake - imagine that on a freezing cold day! π₯Άπ₯Ά
Iβm so close to my 100, I couldnβt wimp out. Secretly was hoping it would be cancelled, but no, and I knew all the volunteers would still be there so off I went. The heavy snow started just as we gathered for the briefing π₯Ά I slipped and slid through the slush but stayed upright. Not a fast time but my highest finish position in agesπ
Still recovering from injury however daughter is now playing Hockey matches for school at the weekends so I have been her personal cheerleader and taxi service.
After Christmas she will be playing Netball every weekend so will have to work out a system so that I can get at least a couple of ParkRun's in.
Husband went this morning, and said it was sleeting and very very cold (and slippery). He took it steady and finished in 27.01. Have just purchased him some trail shoes! π.
Good morning Damien, this morning I ran at Dunfermline parkrun, my 31st, 19th at Dunfermline, sunny but with a cold north/north east wind, temperature 2C, my time was 32:40, age grade 58.01%.I wore jogging trousers, a bonnet and a few layers of light jumpers, all in all a good run for me today. π ππΎ
When Keith the man who takes me to parkrun now was driving to Dunfermline we noticed that there was a lot of snow on the hills, mainly above 1500 feet, but not on low ground, there were a few icy patches on the parkrun course, the RD told the runners exactly where they were, so no one fell, we all avoided those few icy patches.
PS Dexy, 07.45 Sunday morning, I have just woken up to a winter wonderland, the first snow of the season, it snowed early morning, just a light wind, looks beautiful.
No idea, too early to know whether we'll have a white Christmas, I went a 6K walk this morning and saw 3 runners, the snow is slowly melting due to the sun shining and the +3C temperature.
Lol TailChaser, Lochore Meadows Parkrun which is about 10 miles north east of Dunfermline was cancelled today due to ice and a fallen tree on the course.
O yes Oldgirlruns I have warmed up OK, the coldest part was when I got out of my friend Keith's car, πΆ walking to the start felt very cold despite the sunshine, once the run started I no longer felt cold,as I said earlier I was wearing jogging trousers, not shorts, a warm bonnet, not my ππΎ running cap, also, a warm jumper under a thinner jumper , over all that I wore my 25 T shirt and thin gloves as well.
Arwen has defeated me. I managed a 3k(Monday) and then a 5k (Thursday) so that will have to do for this week. Ice pack on one foot and calf guard on the other; this is supposed to be fun!π
Our RD ran the course at 6.30 and gave us the thumbs up to parkrun. It was still dark and she came across some urban foxes in training. 31 mph down here but as the wind was NNW it wasnβt as bad as previous named storms. Brrrh it was cold though and I was in long sleeved top, parkrun T-shirt, and running jacket as well as hat and gloves. 3c without wind chill factor. The volunteers did a sterling job. Only 178 runners today and I was 150th (my highest position in Southsea) and 1st in my age group. I suspect that the low numbers were not just due to predicted weather, but also the first Christmas shopping Saturday after pay day.
Breakfast followed with UpTheStanley , who ran this event for the first time since September, Mr & Mrs Coddfish and Oldgirlruns .
I think weβve been let off lightly compared to everyone else cheeky. I have run in much worse storms, but having had such a mild autumn the drop in temperature has been a bit of a shock. I hope you had a lovely time a la France π«π·.
You did better for numbers than we did Dexy and our wind speed was βonlyβ 22mph. It was straight against you going down the riverside straight though. Well done running in it, hope youβve now warmed up.
Good afternoon Damien and all,Sorry, bit late again as Iβm only just warming up. We so nearly cancelled today because of the weather but 166ish of us ran in the snow, freezing rain and driving winds.
Katnap was co-RDing this week so I waited behind to learn a bit more about result but consequently wore 3 layers of cold, wet clothes to which no amount of coffee would warm me up. Got home and had a shower, into dry clothes so finally starting to feel warm again.
Anyway, managed to get into the top 100 this week as there were so few of us. 27:48ish according to Garmin. Slower according to parkrun butβ¦I blame the dodgy RD π
Tomorrow Iβm off to do a 7.5k run dressed as a reindeer with Shake-and-run - it must be nearly Christmas π π π
Arwen UndΓ³miel, child of Elrond and Celebrian, Queen of Gondor...
Sorry, got distracted there.
I girded my bits and, dressed appropriately, headed off to the local parkrun. I was away in NW Wales last weekend where there wasn't one.
I deliberately arrived about five minutes later than usual so that I wouldn't be hanging around too much. The numbers were much diminished. I was wondering if we were all determined or just daft.
It was windy. There were fallen twigs everywhere. At one point the route was blocked by a large puddle and we had to run round it. One of the downhill sections had the biting wind aiming directly in your face.
Thankfully the snow that had fallen overnight had melted off the paths and only exposed areas that were shaded from the sun (ie. the bowling green and the grassed bits in the "rose garden") retained their icy clumps of snow.
Not counting the two tail walkers (who started jogging towards the end because they were getting cold), there were 35 finishers, down from 112 last week.
I came in at 20, between two teenage girls. The one who came in ahead of me I had overtaken earlier in the run, but she must have found her second wind and zoomed past me on the finish straight. It was her first parkrun, too!
I was deliberately taking things easier today. I've been doing a lot of mileage recently, and I don't want to tempt fate by pushing the pace. I was also in different (trail) shoes to my normal ones.
Not a PB at 30'13", but given the circumstances I'm happy just to have been able to do it today.
Well done on your parkrun and your finish time. Great running. In regards to your opening reference, I lost my precious in the Sea of West Cork in July. But in work the eyes of Mordor are always upon me!
Hi Damien, Just a brief report from me; it was touch and go whether Southsea would go today but in fact the weather was probably a bit better than predicted. Our brave RD was out at 6.30 am to run the course to make sure it was safe. She wasnβt totally alone as foxes popped up on the route, probably wondering what madness this was! Coddfish and I introduced ourselves to the tailwalkers, it seemed only fair as they were obviously going to be out a while as we walked the course. We did it in 54:21 which we were happy with but heck it was cold - a real shock to the system after the relatively mild autumn weβve had so far! I saw the physio yesterday and heβs upped the exercises for my hip but I donβt think Iβll be running again until the new yearπ’. Happy running folks!
It was definitely tougher for you than us runners Oldgirlruns, but it has to be said , the heroes of the day were the volunteers who were stood still in that cold wind. Three cheers for them. Hopefully itβs warmer next weekend when we volunteer again. π€
I wimped out as I was kept awake by the rain and just didn't fancy walk/run 2.5k then hanging around for 15 minutes doing the 5K then 2.5K back. Instead I did a work out and some strength training and stationery bike. It was brutal! Please, please, please let me run tomorrow!!!
Had the weekend off. Normally would work friday night so am limited by which park I can get to after getting home at 8am Saturday mornings. This time decided I could go a bit further afield and so chose South manchester at platt fields park. Wasn't racing as I've got the wilmslow 10k Sunday morning so just taking it easy. Really nice super flat paved course although some of the puddles were simply too big to avoid! Only 11 metres of elevation over the 5k! Hope to be able to get to this one again as I think mum (getfitordietrying) would really enjoy it if I could drag her along with me.
I chickened out of running this weekend at Lowestoft. I volunteered instead. Only 191 brave runners (normally around 300). Wet and cold and it took a while for the feeling to return to my toes! All good fun though!
I forgot to reply myself. Yesterday I traveled to do Tymon parkrun in Dublin with one of my Navan parkrun friends Petula. It was a beautiful park and a lovely 2 lap course. Weather was very cold π₯Ά but dry. I ran a time of 31:36 and finished in 78th place. Petula ran a time just over 28 minutes. After we found a good Service Station and had a coffee before driving home.
Yes it was parkrun tourism, it was my 26th different parkrun and my 81st parkrun , Iβm trying to complete all the parkrun courses in Dublin over the next year.
Thanks Jonathan. I was doing ok, ran 5:52, 6:10, 6:03, slowed down for the 4th kilometer and ran 6:12 for the 5th. Just need to do some more speed training. Work has got in the way over the last 3 weeks.
