Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
parkrun is back thankfully in most Countries around the World. I am hoping for any Countries still struggling with COVID-19 that it returns to you soon.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Your wise. Look after that niggle. You could walk the parkrun or whilst injured or nursing a niggle volunteering is a great way to take part too. I hope your niggle resolves itself soon so as you can get back to running how you want to run.
Iโm on my last 100 mile month for the year to make 6 months of consistent 20+ mile running. Still many miles off that marathon training. One day โค๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Hi Damien and all running friends! My daughter Jenny and I both agreed that Severn Bridge was the place to be for PR this morning. Barely any wind and a lovely day - too good of an opportunity to miss. โ๏ธ ๐ฅฐ
Every time we run there I love it. They are the friendliest bunch and even though itโs basically running alongside the M48, itโs beautiful. The bridge itself is iconic of course, and the number of cars/motorcycles/lorries that honk us is brilliant! ๐บ
It was warm though - and there was no cooling headwind (buffeting gale!) on the return leg for a change. Still, happy with my time of (Garmin) 33:17 and (PR) 33:27. Jennyโs was 30:22. ๐ We shall return! โค๏ธ
Iโm marshaling at Eastville next Saturday ahead of the GSR. ๐
Fantastic running Cheeky and that parkrun is so iconic, Iโd love to do it some day. Well done to your daughter too. So lovely to be able to do it together.
Oisin and myself traveled yesterday evening down to stay with my Mum and Dad because a new parkrun was starting up in my home town. So this morning we ran at The Grand Canal parkrun in Tullamore. It was an out and back along a canal, nice and flat on a lovely tarmac path. Oisin finished in a time of 27:25 and I was delighted with my time of 31:08, I ran it all, felt good and itโs a new post COVID parkrun PB ๐. Not a thing but Iโll claim it anyway. There was just 58 participants and some were Uber tourists claiming another new parkrun. Back at my Mum and Dads now. Breakfast is being cooked. Happy parkrun day.
Hi Damienair, beautiful morning for parkrun, felt a lot like hard work again. Iโm not sure that early runs are my thing, I feel like Iโm running on empty. But, Iโll keep on going as I like the whole Parkrun community. Well done everyone who has taken part.
Well done. I get up a little early on Saturdays to prepare. I set my alarm for 7 get up, have a coffee and a drink of water along with a slice of toast and a yogurt or cereal. Watch some TV and relax. By the time Iโm at parkrun I am ready to run. Kicking Oisin out of bed is the hardest part.๐
Good morning everyone! I should have gone out for my last long run (14k) this week before GSR next Sunday, but, after doing nearly 40k steps around London, my right hip was niggling, so 13k prep will have to suffice. I wasnโt going to let it stop me doing parkrun this morning though. The day dawned very foggy, but, as I drove towards Market Rasen it started to clear and the run was in bright sunshine. Call me Mrs Consistent - official time 30.51 (30.57 last week) and 75th out of 111 runners, 2nd in my age category, which are absolutely identical numbers to last week ๐๐๐
Good morning Damien, just a little word regarding my 69th (not) parkrun on Wednesday, I ran my 5th 10 miles run in a PB time of 2:01:02 so I was very pleased about that, my 5K split time was exactly 37 minutes, that was the time I sent to Dunfermline ( Not) parkrun website This morning I ran my 25th official parkrun at Dunfermline in a time of 33.06, luckily the rain kept off until the last lap of 3, it was only light so I did not get soaked, so I am now entitled to the new 25 T-Shirt, I got a big cheer coming up the last 20 metres, including a cheer from the Run Director shouting "25, 25 Alan well done", I had told her just before the briefing my name and this was my 25th parkrun.
Thanks JP, it's now nice seeing 25 next to my name in the results page when I run at parkrun, I assume within the next week I'll get a offer to buy the new 25 Parkrun T ๐ Shirt, it will also give me the option of buying a bracelet barcode. ๐ ๐๐พ
Thanks Dexy, I certainly will wear that purple T Shirt with pride, I expect a email inviting me to buy the T Shirt soon, when I order it I will also order a new bracelet barcode. Not long now until your Great South Run, I don't think that it's on TV this year as I thought it was.
I used my new parkrun flat band today. It worked a treat. Oisin has one too, gave him great independence today. Looking forward to seeing you in a photo in your purple 25 T-Shirt.
Thanks Damien and Dexy, once I get the T Shirt I will post a photo with me wearing it and I will be with Holly the dog, by the way I trimmed down my beard on Tuesday from 12 inches to only a quarter of a inch.
This week my friend Keith is taking me to The University of Stirling parkrun, we meant to go there yesterday but because it was my 25th parkrun I asked him to go to my home parkrun of Dunfermline, so this coming Saturday its Stirling, not sure if I can get a PB because my beard is only a quarter of a inch but I may improve my previous time of 32.26 which I had at Stirling on 25th September.
Hello all! I did my first proper Parkrun today, 2 weeks ago while out on my Saturday morning plod I noticed that a Parkrun was being set up at Watermead Park on the northern outskirts of Leicesterโฆ as itโs barely half a mile from my front door, I decided to give it a go at my earliest opportunity which was today.
Having started running during Lockdown 1, being in a group was certainly a new experience for me! Certainly the first kilometre was a bit, er, unusual- Iโve run along those very paths more times than I care to think about over the last 18 months or so, but itโs amazing how different they experience is with dozens of other people round you, all with varying paces. As the field spread out and sorted itself out, I managed to get myself into a steady pace, probably not a PB pace but comfortable for my first run in a group.
For the first time in my life (at school I was always the fat kid in glasses who was last in every race ever!) I was passing peopleโฆ I canโt express what a boost to the ego it is to actually overtake peopleโฆ ๐
Unfortunately Captain Thick Fingers managed to totally fudge starting Strava at the start of the run, so until the results email popped in (literally as I was typing this!) I had no idea of my time- I donโt think 28:01 is too bad, itโs outside my PB time but for a first effort running in a group itโs not too shabby.
In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Iโll be backโฆ!
28 minutes is brilliant for a first parkrun CP! Youโll soon grab that PB with all those people around you, it really does make such a difference. Well done ๐
I reckon I lost 20 seconds between the starting hooter and the start lineโฆ memo to self, closer to the front next timeโฆ I was in the top half (just) which is the main thing!
How wonderful Cp1965. Be warned - you will want to keep going back, especially when you get to recognise people. Donโt worry about being a bit slower, it takes a while to reach the start line after the clock starts, but if you start your Strava as you cross the line you will also have a running time.
Wow, that was a fantastic first parkrun. You ran a super time, huge well done and congratulations. Very impressive. You will meet so many lovely people through parkrun. Enjoy the next one.
Thanks, I've been running round Watermead 3-4 times a week for the last 18 months anyway so it's home turf as it were, surprising how different it is in a group though!
I was living in the same town for 16 years. Didnโt know too many people. Then started running and doing parkrun. After a few months of going to parkrun in my local park I canโt walk through the town without meeting a lovely fellow parkrunner. It is an amazing community event.
Pleased to be back at 'proper' parkrun today after 2 weeks of family festivities. It was a beautiful morning at Portsmouth Lakeside - sunny and on the cool side, perfect for running. Aiming to keep sub-30 and managed it at 29.40. Just missed getting into the top half of the field - next time perhaps!
Taking it easy now before next Sunday's GSR, so marshalling next Saturday (joined by some 'refugees'๐ from Southsea, which isn't happening next week).
Very well done on your sub 30 min parkrun. Iโm aiming at getting back there soon. Enjoy volunteering next weekend and best of luck and happy running for GSR. ๐
Absolutely gorgeous day in Stratford. Good to be back here after touristing for a bit.
Feeling good today, apart from the usual ankle niggles. But the lungs and head are in the right place for the GSR next week. Hopefully everything will come together with a little tapering next week.
We pre setup this morning. The light was almost Mediterranean, so photogenic with the river, the theatre and the swans.
There was about 5 very proud looking runners wearing their London Marathon tops. Very impressive too. One dayโฆ
I was pretty steady today and came in at 26:14. According to Strava it was a PB but it wasnโt. Donโt know how itโs worked that one out. Very happy with it though as I was the 23rd female in a field of 330 ๐
Tea and brownie at our new after run venue, the bowls club ๐ Next week more touristing as we make our way down south. Yay!! ๐
Katnap and I have been asked to be Run Directors ๐ฑ Feeling a bit scared! We will be picking UpTheStanley โs brain next weekend ๐
I wonโt be doing it in my own right as thatโs 2 weeks we canโt do anything else. But I am doing lots to support him and parkrun and will probably volunteer each time he is RD. it might be worth one of you doing it first Katnap and TailChaser to see how much work is involved. Itโs more than I realised.
It is. Congleton last week did their First Timers briefing as a pair. Most of their marshalls were in the car park directing traffic, there were hardly any on the course. That was quite an unusual one.
Wow fantastic running and great pace. Very well done. Good luck during the week and enjoy GSR next weekend. Congratulations too to you and Katnap on your invitation to be an RD. Super.
Thanks Damien, I was very surprised by both tbh. Iโm looking forward to chilling a bit this coming week and very much looking forward to GSR. I think thereโs going to be a lot of posts next weekend ๐
Hi damienair and lovely running friends.I ran my Parkrun at Bognor Regis this morning. It started off quite misty but was sunny and bright by the time I finished.
Iโm tapering in advance of the GSR next weekend so I took it easy, but I managed some decent progression and finished in about 33 minutes or so.
Just some shorter runs and intervals this week, followed by marshalling at Parkrun on Saturday before heading to Portsmouth for the big day!
Nothing today. I overslept (after some late nights this week) and then had to do some mum-sitting to allow my dad to get out for the afternoon. Hopefully a 5km tomorrow morning.
I've been doing some other tinkering (eg. fixing a TV remote) instead.
Hi Damien. I managed a (not) park run today with a time of 32:36, the quickest/least slow since last November. It had very little to do with me. My legs just set off and did their own thing. Hoping to ease back into Park Run in a few weeks time; getting up in time would be a good start!๐
Absolutely gorgeous morning in Southsea. Sunny, warm, still. I am building up my walking after Septemberโs hip surgery, so instead of volunteering, I walked around 3k of the route with 1 crutch. I waited on a bench about half a kilometre into the run until the majority of the competitors had passed me, then walked out and back to the finish (not crossing the line), then after a few chats, back to where I had started to meet running buddies for breakfast. No event at Southsea next week, and canโt make the one after that, but aim to walk the whole thing on the 30th without any crutches, which will be almost 8 weeks post-surgery.
What a shame we wonโt be there for your return walk. But you are doing brilliantly and your earlier fitness has obviously helped your recovery from a major operation. ๐๐
Great that your recovery has gone so well Coddfish
Lovely warm day for the NE, another PB for me and I wasn't the last runner this week, for once! I really tried to catch up with the guy in front but just not quick enough. I'm edging towards under 40 mins if I keep this up!!
Iโve never been so late in posting my parkrun. Here I am after celebrating Southseaโs 8th anniversary of parkrun. There was a brilliant atmosphere and there were several of us who made the effort to do fancy dress. Dressed like this I did not aim fir a PB, but even with stopping to take photos for the Facebook site, I managed 37:06 or 38:19 parkrun result . UpTheStanley and Oldgirlruns were volunteering and Coddfish was sitting on a bench just to see which outfit Iโd chosen. ๐คฃ๐คฃ
As always, breakfast followed .
It was a bit warm this morning but definitely better than a pink elephant onesie cheekychipmunks !
Happy 8th anniversary to Southsea Parkrun, that is a lovely photo of you and UpTheStanley with?Southsea Parkrun is not on next week due to another event taking place on the course which I think is The Great South 5K.
Who needs Parkrun, when you can have Pizzarun?! ๐ We're currently away on holiday in our motorhome, and I did just over 5k this evening to order pizza, followed by another 2.68k to collect it.
One of the goodies for finishers in last week's marathon and other races was a free local beer. It's surprising how motivating I found that! ๐บ ๐โโ๏ธ โฐ๏ธ
Hi damienair and everyone, 5th parkrun in a row now and two others during the week (are they non park runs?). The weather was quite good today as it stopped raining just before the run. Attendance was also quite good today with 87 here in Sligo, last week was only 50 but I think a good few went to Enniskillen to do a mini marathon. I have been fortunate enough to have gotten a PB each week so far and achieved 25:18 today, which is 1.19 quicker that my first. I saw a lady and her son in the waiting area before the race and remembered that she shot passed me a few weeks ago in the last 3rd of the run, so I tried to learn from her and try improve my pace. I almost managed 3k when my watch told me to slow down with 173 heart rate. I am still new to this as I only graduated from C25K in July and am not sure what to do so I slow down a bit. However, even though I find every run hard I very much enjoy them.
First parkrun in more than 2 yearsโฆ in between been twice injured, twice completed C25k and 13 months ago (before the last injury) ran an HM. First 5k in a year too so happy with my 33mins. Looking forward to my next one!
