Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
parkrun is back thankfully in most Countries around the World. I am hoping for any Countries still struggling with COVID-19 that it returns to you soon.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

We did pre-setup before the run and I put Halloween decorations on the railings of the pavilion. Unfortunately the pavilion has no guttering so the rain came off the roof straight onto my back whilst I was decorating 😩
It was a pleasure to get running cos at least I could warm up! Massive puddles (I think the swans were in less water!) but I just splashed through them as it made little difference. By the time we’d finished the rain had nearly stopped. Now, of course, the sun has come out!
Bit slower today, 27:44 according to my ‘I really hate the rain, I’m going to give you a bpm reading that makes you look like you’re having a heart attack’ Garmin.
Now trying to warm up!
Have a warm, dry, runny week everyone! I’m off to grab some hot chocolate…😋
We had a “heavy rain sandwich” with the dry spell being during PR TC! Much as it’s fun running in the rain, it sounds like your dowsing beforehand was rather unwelcome!
Reminds me of when I did car park marshal TC and after 5 minutes the heavens opened. By the time parkrun started the rain had stopped so I squelched my way round!
No thankfully Dexy. Early days yet as most of it comes downstream and we were at quite a low level. Never seen puddles like it though, they spanned most of the path a some points. It is hammering it down as I type but it’s supposed to be ok the rest of the week so 🤞🤞🤞
Morning Damien and everyone! Jenny and I had decided to run Clevedon PR today so we headed in that direction only to find the road was closed due to an accident. Turning around would take us the long way there and we’d be in danger of being late so we looked at each other and said, right, Ashton Court! 😅
I’m so glad we did. Perfect running weather (missed the heavy rain). My time was 37:24 which is decent for me on that course (with a shoelace undone for the last 0.5k!) and Jenny’s was 33:31. A well earned coffee and pain au chocolat sealed the deal. 😋💪❤️
Well done Cheeky to you both. Wise decision to change plan to make a parkrun. We had a beautiful crisp morning, but it was cold. I joined the gang for a post parkrun scone and coffee to warm up.
Good morning everyone! I don’t normally do parkrun the day before an event, but what with one thing and another, I hadn’t been for a run since the Great South 2 weeks ago, so thought I’d better. Parkrun #40, back at Market Rasen. Slight breeze, but a dry start, then the rain started about 1.5k in, but didn’t turn torrential until I got home thank goodness 😅 68/115, 4th in my age category in a time of 31.35 for 5.2k 🤷♀️ (although Strava 5k time was 30.43) Lincoln 10k tomorrow, when it looks as though I will not be so lucky with the weather ☹️💦💦
Congratulations to you Damien on the occasion of your 20th volunteer at parkrun this morning.
I ran my 28th parkrun at Dunfermline in a time of 32.26, there has been an awful lot of rain recently in Central Scotland, if I had run at the other 2 parkruns I go to it would have been more of a swim as half the course at those two parkruns were waterlogged, as it was I only had to avoid a few puddles on the course. It was the first time I ran in my new "25 T-Shirt" and I also had the brand new bracelet barcode on my wrist as well, all in all, a good run for me today.
Thanks BC66, there were also a few "ghost runners" at my parkrun this morning, of course the reason for that, tomorrow is Halloween, the Run Director was dressed as a skeleton and there were also a few runners dressed as 🧙♀️ witches.
Well done AL Morr another great run from you and great time. We’ve had floods in our area but not where I live , people evacuated but water recedes no water in houses and people ok.
First time volunteering today as thanks to half term I was not being a taxi for daughters hockey matches & ankle / plantar finally on the mend thanks to my fab physio.
Not surprisingly it was very windy & extremely wet at Seaford seafront. A hardy bunch of runners out though with 112 finishers.
We were handing out the finisher tokens whist trying to stay upright!
Really enjoyed it and was lovely chatting to many fellow runners & volunteers.
First run today after a one week lay off with a dicky achilles; or that is what I thought it was. I saw my physio yesterday and she put me straight. I had a tight medial gastrocnemius (the inside calf muscle to normal people). So 20 minutes massage on my calf and five minutes on the achilles and then came the important question….when can I run? I gave her my most pathetic look (I practised in front of a mirror in advance)…..”tomorrow” she said 🙂 .So a very slow 5k (35 minutes) plodge through rain and mud this morning followed by a flat white….a zillion times better than sitting inside watching the rain run down the window panes.
Your physio is worth keeping hold of BC. She clearly knows how important running is to a runner. Just make sure you obey her at all times and you’ll be just fine! 👊
Well done BC66 on your run today, 35 minutes isn't too slow, if the weather had been better, you'd ran a bit faster, weather conditions can affect runners times.
I was volunteering as timer 2 as well. My timing partner missed one coming through the finish so my one was the accurate timer which matched perfectly with the finish token volunteer. Thanks for volunteering 👍
One of the reasons I’m reticent to try timekeeping nowster. Knowing me I’d void out all the times or something. But I will try it some day, most probably at Juniors when there are only 40 little runners rather than 400+ (sometimes more) at Eastville. Well done for doing that important job. 👊
We only had 50 today (not counting the tail walker group). The rain will have put a lot off.
It's actually very difficult to void off the times. Even after you've submitted the times at the end, the app keeps them around.
I'm really impressed that the app is so resilient. Someone has spent a lot of effort making it (nearly) idiot proof. Just playing with it now, it looks like it would even survive the phone being rebooted mid-session.
No parkrun again for me today - this is becoming too much of a habit for my liking! However the reason was a good one - our first night away in a hotel since the pandemic started. We were in Studland, Dorset, so there was a lovely walk to Old Harry Rocks with a fantastic view across Poole Harbour but..... Hopefully (not) parkrun tomorrow.🤞
Hello damienair . 7.5 weeks from hip replacement surgery and I had targeted today as the first day to walk parkrun. In fact I managed that 2 weeks ago. I had contemplated going crutchless today, but am aware I am a bit like a clockwork toy that can unexpectedly run down. So I used a single crutch but knocked 7 minutes off my time from 2 weeks ago. It will be a while before I can run but will try progressing to Nordic urban poles next.
The great thing is I feel pretty well back to normal. Just need the time to rebuild the stamina and aerobic fitness lost in the difficult period before surgery.
Congrats damienair on 20th volunteering! No rain here in Sligo but it was quite cool at 6 degrees. I was prepared well thanks to last two very good posts from IannodaTruffe about warming up and cold weather running.
I was away with my better half on a little break and took advantage of the treadmill at the hotel every morning trying to get a bit faster each time. It's not the same as running outside and I left it flat. But I thought it would help me a bit with stamina. I got my 6th pb out of 7 runs and managed to finish with a time of 24:54 which made me very happy 😀. Especially because I thought that I was flagging quite badly during the last km.
Wow congratulations on your superb run. That’s an amazing finish time. My PB is 25:36, and it took me all my strength to achieve. I can’t see myself getting a sub 25 minute parkrun PB. Your running great. Well done again 👏
Thanks very much. I'm not really after PBs, I think it's just the fact that I'm enjoying it so much. I'd never think of running and thought that it definitely was not for me. But I wanted to do something after my weight loss that was beneficial. I'm realising that it's a huge sense of achievement for someone that is approaching their mid 50s and who only started c25k in April could be doing park runs and chasing targets exactly a year after deciding to lose weight is quite a big thing. I've been told it a few times now by family, friends and work colleges. But now writing this I feel that it's sinking in and it feels good.
I have to add that a lot of it also comes from reading posts and replies such as yours that gives inspiration to to everyone else, and thank you for that.
Hello damienair and Saturday gang, UpTheStanley and I had the pleasure of running in Cardiff this weekend, so I’ve put up a separate post. It’s great to be part of the parkrun family and just turn up anywhere on a Saturday morning
Hi - Park Run in Congleton, Cheshire is in full swing. It’s always very well attended and has a really good mix of people ; from those who walk for social exercise through to joggers, mid paced runners and speed fiends. I still can’t run fully after a fractured arm earlier in the year, so currently volunteer at the event when I can … if you’re unsure whether to give Park Run a go, consider giving an hour to volunteer and see the event from the other side ; it’s always great fun and wonderful way to support and encourage everyone who does their 5k each Saturday morning.
Well done and thank you for volunteering. Your so right, volunteering is a great way to see how parkrun works become part of the community and make new friends. Hope your back running again soon.
Thanks to all volunteers that make Parkrun possible.I ran 5k earlier in the week, mostly on tarmac due to wet conditions in the fields and woods. Still enjoyed it though, all types of runs are a learning curve and definitely better than no run!
Hope you are making the most of an extra hour today as clocks went back, dark and pouring down here so not a run day for me! Best wishes ☺️
Rain mostly stayed away until the end of PR. I was chased by a ghost for most of it! I did my first km in record time for me but then I slowed a bit and came in at around 38 mins. I'm starting to enjoy it now as I'm making progress, getting stronger in the legs and lungs!
Sorry, I didn’t know there was a dedicated Parkrun section. As I posted elsewhere, I did my first park run ever yesterday, and can’t wait to do the next one! I’m just a bit sorry that everything ended as soon as the run was over and everyone went about their business. I hear that other groups have coffee and conversation after, which is most definitely a plus. Well done for volunteering, damienair!
Oh yes now you know, pop back here again next week and let us all know how your parkrun went. With Covid still an issue parkrun have asked people not to hang around for too long after the run to reduce as much as possible contact time. Also with winter coming and the mornings getting colder fewer people hang around. But normally especially when weather is good people will mingle, chat and relax after parkrun. The more you run and volunteer at your local parkrun you will start to recognise other runners and walkers, chat and make friends. I am sure some of the runners are meeting up afterwards and going for a post parkrun breakfast. You will be joining them soon I am sure.Congratulations and very well done on running your first parkrun. Saturday mornings will never be the same again. You’ll make lovely friends through parkrun.
Still not running. Nearly 4 weeks now with calf issues and then flu and then still a calf issue. I volunteered on Thursday evening but they had enough by the time I answered the last call - only 90 minutes afterwards. Judging by the downfall at 8am yesterday, I think I dodged a soggy bullet. I may try a short jog tomorrow or Tuesday. I had my booster jab this morning, so I will see how I feel.
