Hello Everyone and happy weekend. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
parkrun is back thankfully in most Countries around the World. I am hoping for any Countries still struggling with COVID-19 that it returns to you soon.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in.
Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

I’ve never been so poorly prepared 😆, I was comfortably running 10K around 3 weeks ago. However a couple of absolutely crazy weeks of work and 1 week of having a bad dose of man flu means I’ve done very little running since. I’ll just turn up and enjoy it. Thanks.
Good luck to you Damien on tomorrow's 13K mountain run, I am sure you will enjoy it.Today I did not go to Dunfermline parkrun as Keith my friend had to go to a funeral, he apologied saying he will take me there next Saturday, instead I ran a short 3K around the park very near to where I live, on Wednesday I ran my quickest 10K in a time of 1:08:44, my 5K split time was 0:33:59 which I submitted as my 75th (not) parkrun to my home parkrun website, once again, good luck for your run tomorrow. 😊 🏃🏾 👍
No PR for me either although I did do a 5.68k run around the rowing lake here in Libourne, France. It was a stunner of a morning, especially as it had been foggy and chilly all day yesterday, but today the ☀️ was well and truly out. It was 1 degree in the car though and I’d only brought capris! 😳 I did have gloves, and to be honest hot little me soon warmed up.
So according to my calculations I’ll log the 5k part of this run as a (not) PR in 37.18. 😀
I hope you are enjoying your holiday in France CC, well done on that 37.18 (not) parkrun around the rowing lake, the weather forecast for the UK is to get colder, so keep warm. 😊 🏃🏾
Since I completed that COGH challenge earlier this year I have been interested in a city in North East Russia where COGH began, among other things that city is one of the coldest in the world, I was wondering if there was a parkrun held there every Saturday, there is, this morning 18 runners ran the Yakutsk Dokhsun Parkrun in a temperature of - 30C, now that is extremely cold, I would think that the timers and token volunteers must be very brave to stand around in those low temperatures.
Thanks Damien - well done on your mountain race yesterday
Hi Damien,
Parkrun tourism for me today with my first run at Walsall Arboretum. What a great place to run. It was brilliant.
I didn't get a PB today as my focus was to enjoy at a relaxed pace. Usually by the last km I am running like a jelly but today, although tired I was able to take off for the last 0.5km to achieve 29 mins.
Thank you. It was really tough going but also really good fun. My legs are very sore today. There was a lot of steep uphill sections so it was a mix of hiking and running on trails through forests and across mountains. The views were amazing.
After a busy week preparing for today, today was my first ‘proper’ stint as Run Director. I still had help but I got to experience just how much prep goes into getting the morning ready (lots!) and all the stuff during and after (not so much!).
Just published the run results and the Volunteer thank yous have gone out, so that just leaves a bit of social media to do and then I can hand over the ‘Bag of Power’ to Katnap for next Saturday.
Going to have a shower now to warm up (the temperature definitely dropped from 7.30 when I got there to 10.45 when I left) before the traditional rolls.
Hope everyone had a great day and their results were what they hoped for. Happy running and see you next week 👍👍👍
🤣 yes it was! We got started at 9.05 which wasn’t bad. I did delegate the briefing to my co-RD though, I’m not quite ready for that yet but I will do. Katnap did the tourist briefing.Absolutely shattered this afternoon, lots of nervous energy used up. I’d better get some more together for tomorrow now! Thanks Dexy 👍🤗
Hi, I did volunteering today as time keeper because I did my 1st 10k yesterday. It started off dry and then rained a fair bit from 15 mins onwards.
Our finish line was moved recently and is now a bit off to the side of where it used to be and you can't really see it until it's almost too late. There is a marshal there but the first runner in didn't notice him and ran past, which then got a bit farcical because we all started shouting "over here, over here!, this way, this way!" in a bit of a panic in case someone else came in before her.
🤣 I always think that they take the responsibility for guiding everyone else and they should realise this! We had someone try to go down the funnel after 1 lap, bearing in mind it’s a 3 lap course 🤣
Even elite runners can make a mistake such as running in the 10,000 metres which is 25 laps around a 400 metre running track, at 24 laps some of them think that they have completed the run when they still have 1 more lap to complete.
Hello everyone! I was back at Market Rasen racecourse parkrun today. It was cooler than it appeared so the thin jacket stayed on. Only 79 runners this week - not sure why, but there are normally about 120 🤷♀️ Anyway I was 54th, 18th female/35 and 2nd in my age group (out of 4) and an official time of 31.01 although Strava gave me a course time of 30.30. That’ll do! Good luck for your race damienair
Very well done Sandie, great running. Thank you, the race yesterday went well, 13K up and down mountains with a mix of hiking up steep terrain and running for the rest. Finish time was 1:38. My legs are sore and tired today.
Hello Damienair and parkrunners. A not very good night’s sleep last night meant I really did not want to get out of bed when UpTheStanley brought me my morning cuppa. But I got into my running gear and walked down to our start with 5 mins to spare. 4 min warm up exercises and that was it. Managed to click on to GPS just as I crossed the start line , phew.
A beautiful calm cloudy morning with no wind meant perfect conditions. Our first runner appeared very quickly on his return leg and came in at 15.01, the 2nd fastest in Southsea parkrun history. He was 15-17 years old.
In contrast I came in with more than twice that time, but I’m pleased to say I broke into sub 33 mins and gained my fastest time since parkrun returned in July. 3rd in my age/gender group of 7 and an age grade of 61.88%. It must be the new hair cut making me more streamlined, or maybe UTS cheering me on for the sprint finish. Just think what I could have done if I hadn’t had G&T and wine last night and had slept for 8 hours. 😂
Breakfast at the Southsea Beach Cafe followed with Oldgirlruns who had been volunteering today.
Well done Dexy5 It’s never easy to get going when you haven’t slept well, so sub 33 must have felt even better. 61.99% for me so you were very close behind 😃
Afternoon folks. Not only my first Parkrun but my first run for 2 weeks today, busy with domestic commitments last weekend (the joys of teenage daughters 🤔) and work has been manic for the last 2 weeks, in fact I’m at work as I type this (and I’m not supposed to work weekends!)
Due to the enforced layoff, I took it steady today, aimed to finish as I knew a PB was out of the question. Didn’t seem quite so busy today at Watermead, I did manage to come in 109th place with a time of 29:08. Over a minute outside my PB but, hey, after the two weeks I’ve just had any finish was a bonus! I’m going to WFH on Monday to pinch a bit of time back (don’t tell my manager!) so all being well I’ll get myself out then, and limber up for (hopefully) a better time next weekend. I’ve booked the weekend off to use up some leave before the end of the year so I’ll definitely be out there trying for a better time! Have a good week all!
There's still no parkrun near where I am this weekend. The one at Hafan Pwllheli still hasn't resumed yet. I'll be out doing a long run tomorrow morning instead.
Hope your jaunt round the South Dublin mountains went well.
What a shame Nowster. The upheaval of the pandemic has had a big effect on them. Let’s hope it comes back in ‘22 🙏🤞I doff my cap to you on your HM! Those hills are something else to do a HM round 💪💪💪
Very slow PR today but still great fun. My Garmin time was almost 3 minutes quicker. We have a bottleneck at the start and after 50m due to grass resending barriers. I was very hot at the end. Then helped out on token sorting ( 482 runners!) and got a bit cold! Back next week - no volunteering as I intend to continue afterwards only one extra Km per week max!) Supposed to be 3 degrees next week.
More touristing for me this week. Off to Gunpowder Park (fantastic name!) in Waltham Abbey, about a 15 minute drive away. Lovely two lap course.Saw an old friend last weekend that I hadn't seen for years and he told me that he's done more than 300 different places!
That’s a great name for a parkrun Ritmo. There are all sorts of challenges you can do using parkrun.
Yesterday I ticked off 45 seconds on stopwatch bingo and have now ticked off 49 of the 60 seconds. There is an app on iOS called running achievements if you want to join in the fun. I’m sure Android will have something similar.
I had a go at volunteering at Lowestoft Parkrun yesterday. I really enjoyed cheering everyone on and I was put on funnel control! I don’t think I’ve said well done so many times in an hour! I did a 3k run along the seafront at dusk, just as all the lampposts came on and the neon lights from the arcade. It looked rather pretty!
Well done on all these runs, especially the ones which sound exciting, mountain runs, tourist runs, runs with hangovers! - what a variety, and some just getting out and doing it whatever way!
By comparison I have no excitement to add other than to say I simply ran during the week. I managed 5.3 k in 43 mins around my trusted route around my local park, enjoying the cool air and relatively dry paths. The terrible ten was a reminder I hadn't run for a week, but it passed off as it does. I admired the river boats and the freedom to up anchor and chug away - although where to not sure.
Once into pace, I was OK to reach 5k and thought I'd add on a tad more going to 5.3k.. My plan is to go to 5.6k next time and gradually lengthen the distance. That suits me really as long as I don't drop under 5k anything else is a bonus.
I'm going out to run today making the most of milder weather here in N Kent before the cold snap arrives.
Well done on extending your distance Raisemeup. Do you have a local parkrun you can try out? Some people at ours carry on running a bit afterwards before they get their tokens scanned. So long as you are back before the Tailwalkers that’s fine.
Yes Dexy5, the Tonbridge Parkrun. I plan to do it with a friend when we can but tbh, I hear it's busy and not sure I want to run with so many and a 9 am start on Saturday is a bit early for me as I'm becoming more of a night bird!Good luck on your Parkrun, I'll really have to sort one out for me😊
