Finally 5km under my belt

Hi, I'm a October graduate and finished October with great happiness ๐Ÿ˜Š. I finally managed 5k and I can now say I'm moving onto 'Bridge to 10k'.

I've always ran with music but today music stopped twice for some reason, so I gave up on music/timer and decided to see how far I can go on in my steady pace. I dare say I could go even further but I didn't want to stress my legs too much and when I finally stopped I happily found out I got over the 5k huddle today! I tried to suppress the temptation to go faster and I think it really helped to run further. I was thinking burning oxygen equals burning fat ๐Ÿ˜.

I'm thinking of doing Ju Ju's magic plan time one at 1.5 to 2x speed, meaning take 1.5 to 2 weeks to finish 1 week plan. 10k seems daunting but 60min run seems less daunting, I don't know why. I post a neighbour's cat I sometime see when I go for a walk.

Very well done on your 5K run. Try running 5K x 3 times per week first for a few weeks to build up your running legs and when your comfortable with that then move on. I got to 10K by doing 5K twice per week and then picking 1 of the runs as a long run. I added 500 meters per week onto that. Itโ€™s a nice easy way to get to 10K.

Thank you damenair, I like the sound of nice easy way๐Ÿ˜Š. Ju Ju's plan made me realise not all run have to be a long ones too so I'm planning to have a long run as every 4th one. ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Well done achieving your 5k run !And the magic plan is a great way to get to 10k or 60 minutes once you are comfortable with 5 .

It's then good to vary your runs , so maybe a 5k at a steady pace , a 3 or 3.5 at a faster pace or Fartleks, then a longer slower run ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you for the advice. I do find fast run hard but I will mix the Speed podcast in the routine and see how it goes.

I don't do fast ! But Fartleks are easier ๐Ÿ˜

I did the 60 minutes before the 10K too. In 60 minutes I reach about 7K. I did not really follow the plan though. I just added 5 minutes to my weekend run every other week until I reached 60 minutes. Anders that I continued until I reached 10K. My week-runs I kept at 30 minutes for a long time. I now do (if life permits) 5K (45 minutes) 2 times a week and 10K (90 minutes) in the weekend.

Yeh, I'm gonna follow the plan loosely. I wonder how many minutes it will take me to run 10k eventually, will find out ๐Ÿ™‚

Like others have said, get comfortable running 5k 3 times a week for a few weeks before moving on to a 10k plan. I tried a few 5-10k plans but couldnโ€™t settle with them, so just increased my long run each week by 1-1.5km. Didnโ€™t take long at all once my mind was in the right place.

Try three 5Ks per week for a while, but don't push it. It might be better to just do two 5Ks plus maybe a faster shorter run each week before starting the Magic Plan. That first 5K is magical, isn't it? It is what we all aimed for when we started. It was more exciting than completing my first 10K. Now I just desperately want to get off the Injury Couch. Not long now.
