New trail shoes, I had been thinking about it and whether we would go through enough trails to make it worth it, then Dexy5 took one look at a picture I posted and said we needed trail shoes, I took a deep breath and ordered some with the thought that if they weren’t comfortable we could send them back without stepping out the door.
Got home from work Monday and there they were, laying on the doorstep,
A walk yesterday and a run today both felt very much safer and more stable
Willows are black and he said they supported his feet so well he won’t take them off so i explained they were for trails only to which he agreed and kept them on anyway

These are mine, they have 8mm lugs and really really stop me slipping in mud snow and ice, tbh I havent run on anything other than a mud trail, but no matter what they are you def need the extra grip in all weathers! I also have a pair looks like yours which I can use on hard roads and trails so maybe yours do both too? This is my new spare pair, the ones I have used are filthy with mud and so I refuse to take a photo 🤣🤣
I’m glad they are working out for you WillowandSola. They probably won’t stay that colour though. 😂 If they get really muddy after a run, just bang the soles together and it’s amazing what drops off. We don’t put ours on until we reach our destination and change before we get in the car.
I was surprised they feel so good and Willow said not one twinge in his knee so he wore them when we went out later even though i told him they were for trails only lol
I have two pairs of trails!! A normal heel drop for normal muddy lumpy uneven trails and hills where I need to avoid slipping and need ankle support, and another pair for rocky gravelly steep hills. The rocky pair have a 10mm heel drop, and fasten slightly higher up my foot keeping my ankles rock solid when scampering down really steep stony slopes ( Not too quickly of course....in case my physio is reading this 😉). Sounds like you made just the right choice.👍
We certainly felt safer in them, which surprised me, they are light but felt like they were holding our feet in place. To be honest I went for mid price and didn’t look at heel drop, so it’s just luck that they are so good, and even after my little lecture of only wearing them for off road running Willow kept his on when we went out later, he said by holding his ankles straight he had no knee pain at all, i think it’s nearly time he had new road runners too
My choices were luck too in a way. I didn’t think about heel drops etc, I just took my running shop owner’s advice on something suitable for the terrain. My research as to why they suitable came much later.
Nice looking shoes Sola. May you have many happy running miles in them.I don't clean mine much - there's not much point. I'll knock off the worst of the mud and that's usually it.
Mine are not too spiky underneath but grip much better than my running shoes and, unless I'm running entirely on roads, are my normal wear right through the winter.
I’m learning so much about trail shoes, and there was me thinking a pair at the right price was what i should buy but they seem to be good for both of us, next time we need some i may look into it a bit more, but maybe by the time we need new ones we will be able to try several pairs on in a real shop 😀
Ooh, going to a real shop, what a treat! Today is the start of my freedom - I'm no longer shielding. It probably won't make much difference to my lifestyle but at least I've got choice now😃
Those look lovely - I'm quite partial to purple as well 😉. You won't regret buying these beauties. I got some when there was a lot of ice and snow about and I couldn't believe the difference - I could walk on icy pavements no bother! Enjoy the new grippy runs!!!
Really interesting. I noticed Dexy5 had recommended you needed trail shoes and it made me wonder about my own. Urban parks trails and streets make it hard to judge, but with most of the time on the mud paths... Need to read up, me thinks.
