5K walk

Hiya,

My plan is from now on (since my vacation) to run on Tuesday, Thursday and then Saturday or Sunday. Unfortunately I could not run on Tuesday as I had my 4-weekly IV and I don't feel comfortable running after having had my meds through the IV. My next run was planned on Thursday, yesterday, after work.

Only, I had serious spasms in my body the evening before and also during the day yesterday. I occasionally get this, I think it's the diaphragm or so. No idea what causes it, stress, unhealthy posture, ... ? Either way it is rather painful and it wears me out. And on top of it all, it was warm and stuffy. In short, I really did not feel like running.

But I decided to do a brisk walk of 5 km instead of a run of 5 km. Set out and finished in 54 minutes, only a rough 10 minutes more than when I run the same distance. I liked it and I have to keep it in mind that whenever I really don't feel like running (too hot, too much pain, too tired, whatever), hat I just do a brisk walk of the same distance.

Only have to keep in mind to change my clothes. I did the walk in the clothes I wore to work and they were just a tad too warm and tight for such a brisk walk.

Cheers, Evy

Brilliant effort, anything which raises the heart rate will add to your weekly active minutes. As you do more walking you’ll work out the clothes which work for different conditions just like you did with running. Happy running and walking 🤗

Yeah, I did not really feel like putting on my running clothes for walking. But these clothes were absolutely not suited either. That'll need some thinking!

Well done !I also occasionally walk my 5k route,

I don't wear my running clothes but usually get too hot and feel overdressed 🥵

in reply toInstructor57

I also felt overdressed. Wore regular long pants which I wear to the office with a short sleeved shirt and a pair of regular sneakers. I was dripping by the time I came home!

Well done on your brisk walk, a wee change from running as well. I walked from work to home one day in shop clothes far too hot. When I’ve been going my walks I wear knee leggings and T-shirt and thin top if cooler. Winter will be longer leggings and jacket. I get too hot with a lot on especially walking briskly. Out walking Tuesday morning and and insect decided it wanted me for breakfast and drew blood. Sore all day and swollen but better now . They’re dozy at this time of years but like me in mornings 🤣

Oh don't talk to me about insects and especially mosquitos! I have been stung like 100 times this year and on the most weird places. The tip of my nose (handy if you want to be a clown), the tip of a finger, the side of my hand and even my eyelid! I hate the lil buggers!

I would suggest the principle of layers work for both running and walking. Most important (like running) is the right good-quality footwear.
