Just a 3K Run, 40:30 Jeffing โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿฅต

After an enforced break from running due to a painful tooth abscess I decided to make my comeback run this morning. Root canal treatment starting in 6 weeks, something to look forward to! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

The gremlins were out in full force this morning ๐Ÿ˜ˆ. I had put everything on charge last night. Got up at 6 am. Dressing gown on ๐Ÿ˜ˆ and downstairs for a cuppa. Dilly dallying and chitter chat with my brother. Should I/shouldnโ€™t I run? ๐Ÿ˜ˆ Tomorrow might be a better day! Went and showered. Felt more positive and put my running gear on. Checked the forecast - itโ€™s really too warm to run, isnโ€™t it? ๐Ÿ˜ˆ.

Overcoming all the gremlins I decided to run but I would Jeff it and take it easy! Iโ€™m still taking painkillers so thought my heart rate might be elevated; but it would just be a 3K run. That wonโ€™t be hard!

Stretches and out of the door. Warm up walk, workout selected and off I go!

Well, I kept to my plan for the first 1/2 km, but soon started to push the run intervals. Result was, even with the walk breaks I got very tired! The uphill parts felt like mountains and it was very warm. I persevered but I was hot at the end and I felt that Iโ€™d overdone it. I was happy, though, to get that 3K run under my belt; itโ€™s often difficult to get back to it after a break.

I think I like the 40:30 intervals, Iโ€™ll try the same again next week, Next run, Iโ€™m going to try and do a slow 5K and a longer Zone 3 run at the weekend.

Well done, gremlins defeated and a nice 3k run under your belt ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ your body must be feeling it after having to cope with that abscess so it's not surprising it felt like an effort, especially if you're pushing during running intervals - I just love how your competitive side can't stay in the back seat for long ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I'm planning a longish run later this week so might give that 40:30 ratio a go ๐Ÿ‘

Thanks, Beatles ๐Ÿ˜Š, itโ€™s fun to play with those ratios - probably take a good while to find out which one suits us best. I noticed that I was looking at my watch a lot for the last 10 seconds of the 45:30 ratio which is why I changed it. You wouldnโ€™t think that 5 seconds would make such a difference.

Sorry to hear about the abscess, they can be really painful so don't beat yourself up too much. Procrastinating is always part of my running routine! Glad to see you back ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks, Runninggirl. Oh yes, itโ€™s been painful! I need to cut back on the procrastinating, itโ€™s mentally exhausting! I had learned how to shut it off, but the break hasnโ€™t helped. Good to be back, though ๐Ÿ˜Š

I love that Running Girl!! Made me smile so much โ€œ procrastinating is always part of my running routine โ€œ just sums it up perfectly. Youโ€™re so rightโ€ฆโ€ฆitโ€™s a miracle I ever get out the door, but now I know itโ€™s all part of my routine Iโ€™ll just go with it! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

Oh, I hope so! Plan to force myself to run slowly next time and make it a deliciously slow run ๐Ÿ˜Š

Great to see you back, but sorry to hear about the abscess (not nice). As you say, the first step can be the biggest, and youโ€™ve nailed it.๐Ÿ™Œ

Thank you. Yes, a struggle to get out there for no real reason ๐Ÿ˜Š, but felt soo good afterwards.

Cherish that amazing glow of the 'afterwards feeling'. We sometimes need to hang on to it when the 'before feeling' feels hard.

Youโ€™re so right. I feel much better now. Plus, Iโ€™ve just sacked a locum solicitor who was confusing my case and Iโ€™ve had all her costs refunded. I feel like a load has been lifted and Iโ€™m back in control ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks, Grannyhugs, those pesky gremlins were out in force this morning! Trying not to think about roots and canals ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well done and welcome back. I was wondering what had happened as you're usually so regular in your runs.

One word of warning about painkillers (obviously needed for your abscess). They might mask any minor injuries you get while running. Be careful!

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to nowster

Ooh, hadnโ€™t thought of that! Abscess is a lot less painful today as the tooth has been drilled, flushed and โ€˜โ€™dressedโ€™ with a temporary filling on top! So I can dispense with the painkillers today, I think.

Ouch thats nasty, makes me feel all the complaining about an upset stomach wasnโ€™t warranted glad you felt ok to run again though and it sounds like it went well

Feel much better today. I think the infection is under control now. Well, you canโ€™t run with an upset stomach, for the obvious reason and also you feel exhausted with it, so glad youโ€™re on the mend!

Thanks, yes it wasnโ€™t much fun but neither is an abscess so iโ€™m just glad we are both on the mend ๐Ÿ˜€we are on way to beach, Willow is singing along to my playlist which is synced to car speakers itโ€™s great, for a singer he doesnโ€™t sing along to things as often as iโ€™d like

Iโ€™m glad, too. How lovely! A beach trip sounds fabulous and I love to hear singing ๐Ÿ˜Š

I think Iโ€™m as far away from the beach as is possible! Bournemouth is about 90 minutes away ๐Ÿ˜•

Ouch sorry to hear about the tooth ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿ˜Š. But well done on getting out there for a run. Sounds as though you were met with a veritable army of gremlins this morning, they are SO bad! But you overpowered them, well done ๐Ÿ‘.

Great to have to you back Jools - I was wondering what had happened to you! That's a brilliant comeback run - teeth and gremlins considered and all. Well done! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘I've not been on here as much and have done my fair share of procrastinating lately for one reason or another. I need to get back into a proper routine.

Interesting what you say about the 45:30 ratio though as I was finding myself checking the watch quite often as well. I think I'll give it another go though and then I might try 40:30 and see how that goes.

Thanks, Diane, good to be back. Determined to get back to my routine, which was working well ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thatโ€™s the joy of Jeffing, we can try out new ratios whenever we want! Many people on the Facebook page use 30:30. I tried that and didnโ€™t like it. Now Iโ€™m wondering if I might have been a bit hasty. Anyway, Iโ€™m going to give 40:30 another go next week over 5K. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I tried 90/45 today. Disaster. Went far too fast too early and it was too late and warm. Stopped at 30 minutes. Better than nothing I suppose.

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to Maz1103

Of course! A 30 minute Jeff is still a run and Jeffing is a learning curve. I read on the Facebook page that itโ€™s not recommended to walk for more that 30 seconds. I find that shorter running times seem to suit me better, too. I did try running for 2 minutes and that was a disaster! Then I tried 30 seconds, then 45 and now 40! Iโ€™ll find the sweet spot in the end ๐Ÿ˜Š

Great you got out and got the run done yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚. I can absolutely sympathise with the tooth pain (currently on second batch of antibiotics while I'm waiting for root canal treatment). So, so glad the dentists can treat these things again! Good luck for the treatment when it comes!

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to tmbtrain

Oh, poor you! Iโ€™m not sure why I didnโ€™t get any antibiotics, the dentist just drilled and cleaned out as much of the infection as he could, sprayed it with some stuff and put on a temporary filling. I now have to wait because heโ€™s busy. Ah well, Iโ€™m just enjoying the lack of pain right now and itโ€™s great to be running again and to be able to sleep at night ๐Ÿ˜Š

tmbtrain profile image
tmbtrainGraduate10 in reply to Jools2020

So good you can sleep again and run! Its definitely priority to stop the pain and good that cleaning the tooth out is working. I was told that antibiotics cant really clear an infection in the jaw but can help shrink it and stop it from getting worse. I've had trouble since June last year when the tooth originally died but it flared up last week and they gave me a date for the treatment. So grateful!

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10 in reply to tmbtrain

The dentist thought my tooth was dead - We found out it wasnโ€™t when he started drilling! Ouch! Letโ€™s hope the root canal work sorts us both out - my dentist gave it a 60% chance of working ๐Ÿ˜– I donโ€™t care as long as as I can run ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

tmbtrain profile image
tmbtrainGraduate10 in reply to Jools2020

๐Ÿ˜ฎ oh! You'd certainly know it still had working nerves when he started drilling! I guess 60% is better than 50:50 and if it works its so much nicer to have the tooth ๐Ÿคž good luck!
