Knee support

Morning,

So I’m up to 9k and it’s going well the problem is my knee starts hurting. I’ve tried changing the way I run or slow down a bit and hit helps but when it’s really hurting I stop although I’m not tried and could go on if it wasn’t for my knee hurting 😡.

I’ve signed up to the Manchester Great run 10K in September, so I’m trying to be sensible when I do a longer run I rest etc.

I’m thinking of getting a knee support, thoughts????

Are they any good? It’s there a particular one you’d recommend or avoid? Or any other advice appreciated

Thanks 😊

Louise have you had your gait analysed? A lot of my early injuries were due to a lack of support in my trainers which is a very common issue. I would start by taking a look at your footwear. Id also recommend strength training to support your knees better. Good luck!

I would suggest gait analysis too. In the beginning of my running after a while I started to have some knee pain too. Because my shoes were not yet outdated and I didn't feel like buying new shoes because I was not sure whether I would keep running, I ordered sport soles for pronation. I have flat feet, so I know I kinda pronate. I used the soles and have not had painful knees anymore since. But of course this is pure luck that it worked for me, you might injure yourself even more if it's not the right solution for you. So gait analysis is my main tip.

Thanks, I’ll look into getting my hair checked. I have Adidas ultraboost and switch to on cloudflyer which made it 100 times worse

As others have suggested, my first port of call would be a gait analysis so you know if you are running in the right shoes for you !

Personally I’d say if you are in enough pain to want strapping or support you shouldn’t be running to give the injury time to recover. Do also consider the shoes you are wearing- how long have you had them, although externally they may seem ok the intern support may be done. Happy running 🤗
