ME: WILL I RUN? KNEES: NO!

Decided to run this morning. Have asked myself every morning this week ' will I run? ' The answer has been no. I've had painful knees but felt I was copping out. This morning my knees felt ok and as though they could stand up to a bit of exercise. I set off for a 30 minute run - decided to experiment with my form - I watched a couple of YouTube videos on knee pain and running form the other day so thought I'd give it a try. After 15 minutes I was thinking maybe I'd stop - I was finding it hard - tricked myself by thinking I'd just run to the tree and then just up the hill and so on. It did get better. I stopped when I got back to where I'd started which was actually 28 minutes - 4.44 km. I felt like I'd removed a burden this morning. The burden of saying I'm going to run for a certain time or a certain distance. I made sure to do post run exercises and then showered. I felt better after this run than I have for a while. The post run exercises definitely made a difference. These are usually hit or miss for me but I feel my body has been trying to tell me something and now I'm listening!

Great effort, I'm glad you got that run in without adding to your knee pain. Well done. Happy running 🤗

Great run 59er , you've done the right thing with taking a couple days break it obviously helped . I was told those post run stretches are a must and do them after every run and I'm positive it helps. 😊😊

It's something I haven't necessarily paid much attention to. I tend to get back from my run and get caught up in my day. The difference was quite noticeable so I'm going to adjust my timings! 😄

Good run today, well done.

Interesting what you say about post run exercises. I do some , but perhaps not enough as I have some knee pain today post run.

I better pay more attention to correct post run stretches.

I've also bought myself a 'wand' type massager which means I can massage my legs all over - I've been meaning to go get a massage for months as my friend said if you run you should get a regular massage to keep yourself in tip top condition. I am obviously regretting the fact that I didn't make that a priority. At the end of the day you find what's best for you and your body. Happy exploring!

This is so lovely to hear. I've been struggling too recently. Hobbled to 4m on Wednesday but decided against going out today. I've been doing the strengthening exercises and I'm going to still do the exercises until it's less sore and be patient before I venture out. Maybe Sunday. So lovely to read this and it gives me hope too. Well done though. Take care going forward and run free 😊

I was really going forward with The Magic 10 - just 2 more weeks to go and then this happened. But I figure that my body is more important than the distance I can run. I have to take in to consideration my age, fitness, body capabilities and just go with what I have. As long as I still get what I need from it then that's great for me, and I do. I feel like I'm fitter than I've ever been and my mental health is good - so I'm happy with that. I must be growing up!
