Iβd decided on a longer run this morning, having already completed a 3.5K, and 2 x 5K runs since I started running again after a 3 week break. This would be a comfortable run. I was trying not to admit to myself that it was also to regain local legend status on two of the Strava segments on my run. I had been cruelly robbed of that status by another runner in my local running group! Time for action! π
As I left the house, I noticed that there was a small package on my doorstep. curious, I took it back inside. One of the women in the village had left me a gift, a few chocolates, small bottle of Prosecco, a scented candle and a home facial. How lovely! It reminded me of things to be grateful for. I send her a message of thanks.
Off I go on my warm up walk, my route already decided by the segments. I start running steadily. I wanted to make sure I was warmed up properly if I decided to increase pace later. I fancy listening to music this morning; Abbey Road. Love that album, especially the medley on side two. Running steadily and enjoying the music.
Iβm aware of a few twinges this morning, but they disappear as Iβm warming up slowly. Itβs definitely a slower run, I notice that my time after 5K is more than 40 minutes, but it doesnβt matter and I plod on. I decide to increase pace for the last kilometre. I had intended to stop at 7K, but I realised I was in the middle of a segment, so carried on for half a km even though I was tiring.
Run over. Iβm pleased. I enjoyed the run and it went well. Back home, I smile when I see I have regained my local legend status and have a couple of chocolates with my coffee to celebrate!
Kilometre splits: 8:20, 8:25, 8:18, 8:03; 7:56, 7:37, 6:53

What a fab way to start the day and what fab neighbours you have! You're definitely a legend π A great run for you and I couldn't approve more of your choice of music π πΆπ
Yaay Congratulations I am Very glad to hear you have regained your local legend status, how dare they rob βourβ Jools of her crown π ππππ
Oh Julia that is so lovely π how thoughtful, enjoy your treats and wearing your sparkling crown.
Well done on another great run, fantastic distance.
You are a legend Julia, how nice of that neighbour, great run, look at all those negative splits, each kilometer is a little quicker than the previous one. π ππΎ
I slowed down after 7K and I was walking before I suddenly realised I was in the middle of another segment. So started running again. There are 5 segments and (for now) I have them all π
Well done Jools, i was happy with your pace, till that last km π€£ i think i understand the local legend thing, although not sure how to use the segment bit on strava π€·ββοΈ
I think that people who pay for a subscription to Strava can set up sections (segments) of running routes. Then everyone who runs along that segment can compare times. A local legend has just run along that segment more times than anyone else! Nothing to do with pace.
You donβt have to do anything, if a segment is in your route it shows in the stats and gives you a time for it.
Yes indeed, mission complete. Iβm sure sheβll try to take it back π¬. We live in a small village with not too many running routes! The gift was a surprise and such a kind thought.
Mostly I have a plan, but my plans are often subject to change - like the last 5K I ran on Tuesday. It was supposed to be a 7 or 8K, perfectly planned π but in the middle of the run I could see I could be close to a 5K personal best - so I changed it to a 5K run and went for it!
Sometimes itβs fun just to go out without a plan at all π
The parcel of goodies was such a thoughtful gift and I appreciated it so much ππ
