In contrast to my last run in icy weather, this felt like a warm run in very reasonable 8 - 9 degrees Celsius.
So only 2 layers, 1 thin buff and off I went.
A bit more of a struggle today, and I seem to discern a pattern: whenever I have a longer recovery break, here for instance 5 days last week, my first run always feels great (that was Sat), but my second run afterwards always feels like a struggle.
Anyone else have that?
But I did it, and got rewarded by my next RunLEJOG postcard. I know many of you from the LEJOG4 cohort have already finished, but I’m steadily making progress, albeit very slowly.
Happy running, everyone!

Congratulations on your 200miles. Yes The 2nd run can be a struggle at times, I think the Yoga though is helping to keep the level of fitness up, I’m noticing a difference- so thank you for your direction for that. 🧘♀️😊👍🏃🏻♀️
🙏 yes, I think yoga is responsible for my legs feeling really stretched out properly. Downside is that I don’t seem to need to turn to my lovely collection of foam rollers as much as I used to! 😱😅
Well done CBDB 👍 It’s weird how quickly the weather has changed! I seem to have a similar issue when I take a longer break, so you’re not alone🙁I’m still on LEJOG4 and I haven’t finished quite yet. Just keep going at your own pace and I’m sure you’ll get there👏👏
Interesting to hear. Knowing that this might happen on 2nd runs is really good to know ahead. If I had planned my 8k or 9k run today, I think I would have really struggled to finish.
Do you think the sudden weather change could be a factor as well? I'm sitting with the patio door open and it's 15° whereas on Saturday it was - 3.5°!Congratulations on your 200 miles 🎊
Thank you. Yes, maybe. I will keep monitoring this, but I think the temperature didn’t affect me. It felt perfect. But 15 degrees would have! Wow 😅😅. We only had ca 8 degrees.
Yep, I can relate to that CB. Not sure why it happens but I’m sure there’s some complicated scientific reason for it. However, in my experience, it all gets a little easier, little by little, until you realise you hardly need that break anymore.
Well done on your postcard! You’re doing fab, don’t worry about others! I’ve got some on LEJOG 6 who are barely past the Eden Project yet.
And as for clothing today: wasn’t it such a relief!!
Yes I have that too. My first run after a break always seems to go well. I thought maybe it was because I have fewer expectations- so not pressurising myself. Or maybe it's just the joy of getting back out again.
