I postponed my usual Saturday run yesterday as I woke up to freezing fog here in the fens. No thank you! Made a cuppa and went back to bed ๐
This morning it looked much better, just about 0 degrees but bright. I could see it was frosty. Went outside in my dressing gown to check how slippery it was and decided it might be in places, but was mostly OK.
Dressed for the weather with short sleeved tee shirt, new Proviz long sleeved tee shirt, running tights, neck buff and another buff round my ears. And gloves! Left the house, nope - still too cold, so went back inside and popped on my windproof jacket, too. Thatโs better! Off I go. Warm up walk done and photo taken.
I decided to run for 10K. Iโm listening to โA 10K Runโ from the Nike Run Club app. I start the run and Iโm annoyed because Iโve listened to this one quite recently, but Iโm running now and decide not to change it. Itโs a good one anyway, I like all the Coach Bennett guided runs.
I start easy and relaxed, running out of the village. The frost is quite heavy, but the roads arenโt too bad, I can see the frozen puddles and easily avoid them. Being a Sunday, itโs very quiet indeed, no traffic at all. Wonderful! I pass the rookeries and hear the familiar calls; we have quite a few of them in the taller trees in the village. I can hear Whooper swans, but they are too far away to see this morning. I notice a mute swan family sitting quietly on the banks of the old Croft River, which is full of pondweed.
I turn onto the rural part of this loop and encounter a slight headwind. That wind is cold! I soldier on. The road is a single track and very quiet indeed today, but it is a little slippery so I take care. My pace is ebbing and flowing as I like it to now on my longer runs. It feels comfortable and I have a sense of gradually increasing pace as my body warms up.
Coming out of the lane and running back towards the village, I concentrate on my form. I feel Iโm running well and enjoying it. I like running when itโs cold! I turn up the Deadend Track and back again and start my last km heading into the village. Pull out a few stops to finish strong. No records broken, but a lovely run to set me up for the day. Home, stretches and coffee! ๐โโ๏ธโ๏ธ โ๏ธ
