Running clothes

Has anyone got any recommendations for cheap but comfortable running trousers and tops for the winter which isn’t Lycra?

I don’t mind men’s clothes either as I like my clothes loose fit which is why I don’t like Lycra or leggings so don’t want that.

I normally run in football shorts and a running top but it’s getting cold however Iam a little worried if I’ll get too hot or the winter wear is too heavy.

Decathlon have got some running trousers but I as I wear Lycra I haven’t tried them. They are technical fabric so you shouldn’t get too hot. Look on their site for tops too- layers are good so you can remove one if you get warm.

Runners in Lyra but because Iam not fit like most runners I see out I don’t know if layers are too heavy.... do you find Lycra comfortable I’ve never actually worn it I just don’t like the way it looks and I hate clothes which cling

Lycra is very comfortable but until you feel confident I can understand you not wanting to wear it straight away. However, the man who started parkrun was fed up of the big sports brands only selling running clothes for slim people and he started his own brand CONTRA, which come in all sizes. My friend @oldgirlruns has got 2 pairs of their leggings and she loves them.

That’s excellent thank you so much I will look at that brand too as I agree when I look the sports brand clothes all look for skinny people and don’t seem to do clothes for all sizes

I’m a bit mean about running gear, not sure why as spend so much time in it, but I would definitely say buy technical stuff not cotton. I have some nice items from matalan. My shorts are expensive ones, the double layered type, but they’ll do me through winter. On top I wear t-shirt and single layer bright jacket on windy days. Supermarket brand thermal gloves. Go for thin layers you can easily remove. Happy running 🤗

I'm seldom too cold for shorts as long as I keep my core warm. Decathlon can't be beat for value. They do a Kalenji wind jacket which is very versatile. I have the old version (two of them) but they haven't changed much. They are very light and easy to stuff into a pocket or just tuck into a waistband when you take them off. Other than that I'd say get a hat, gloves and a Buff. With those you can regulate your temperature very easily and shove them in a pocket when not worn.

I don’t like clingy fabric so I buy my trousers from Decathlon. They’re comfy and they have a zip pocket at the back. They’re not tight nor baggy and they’re easy to run in. I have a long pair and a three-quarter pair. I don’t know if there are better brands but Decathlon have been perfect for me.

I haven’t bought any myself but have seen lots of posts on here from people saying the Marks &Spencer running range is really good quality for the price. If you aren’t in a mega rush sign up to the emails for a few online running shops and wait a few days for all their post Christmas sales to start. I think I’ve bought nearly all my running gear in sales, managed to get some really good quality kit at much more reasonable prices.

Personally I love my running tights (words I thought I would never ever say) but they keep you warm without being hot. Top wise I always layer up with two running tops, this time of year usually a thin running t-shirt (wicking material) then a light weight long tops. For this time of year if you don’t like gloves look for long tops with thumb holes in them, so you can pull them down over your hands. These work a treat because as soon as you are warm you can push the sleeves up and don’t have to worry about carrying a pair of gloves!

I wear lightweight men's track suit bottoms that I found in a supermarket of all places. They are thin material - you don't want something heavy round your legs particularly if they get wet. But they keep the cold wind off.
