Thank you, it's sore but could have been worse๐Ÿ˜ถ

Oh crikey Jell6 where on earth was the apparently responsible owner ๐Ÿ˜ณ

They weren't there, it's a stables, the damn thing jumped over the wall of the yard.

I probably don't have to check that your tetanus is up to date ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ

It is apparently, it seems if you have had 5 in your lifetime you're OK!

Wow every days a school day Jell6 I wasn't aware ๐Ÿ‘ what I do know is for the 1st time in my life I've been offered a flu jab ๐Ÿ™„ Mrs Wife says I'm going !!!

The tetanus rule is forever changing!. Flu jab or Covid-19 jab?, yes have the flu jab definitely!

Blimey, that looks nasty. How did the dog owner respond? Sounds like they haven't got the dog well trained enough to be let off the lead. I hope it's not too painful and it heals up quickly. โ˜น๏ธ

Thanks, I'll be ok, got to have a course of antibiotics.

Jell6 profile image

I'm pretty sure it was a nip, the puncture holes in my leggings make me think bite , it is hard to be 100% sure though

Bluebirdrunner profile image

๐Ÿ˜ต shocking, and it could have been a child as IP says. Bad enough that you are injured like that and leggings ruined. ๐Ÿ˜กxxx

Iโ€™m appalled to see this. I hope the dogโ€™s owner was apologetic, but even so thatโ€™s not enough. It looks painful and apart from the wound itself, you must have been shocked by the whole thing.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toJools2020

Do you know what Jools, I've been keeping my eye on that little @$%##@ for months now, clearly he's been keeping his eyes on me too. Yes it is painful, but I dare say it could be worse, my leggings though...

Jools2020 profile image
Jools2020Graduate10โ€ข in reply toJell6

Sounds like at the very least the dog should be muzzled when outside and the owner should be responsible for replacing your ruined leggings!

To actually draw blood is a serious matter. All sympathies.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toHeavyFoot

Thanks Heavy Foot, antibiotics required as skin was broken.

I meant legally serious.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toHeavyFoot

Oh right, sorry! The police are going to see the owner, they are also coming to see me. I considered what Irishprincess had said, and thought she was right, it could have been a child.

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessGraduate10

That looks bad Jell. I bet it hurt too. A dog bite should be reported to the police and in some cases the dog will be put down. My husband got bitten by a neighbourโ€™s dog last year and he had to get a tetanus but he didnโ€™t report it although we discussed it at length. The neighbour was mortified and apparently the dog never bit anyone before or since. But I still worry that the dog will bite someone else, God forbid it is a child.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toIrishprincess

After reading this I gave it some more thought. I have reported it, I'm waiting for the police to come and see me as we speak. Like you said a child would probably have come off worse. X

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessGraduate10โ€ข in reply toJell6

Itโ€™ll be interesting to see what they say. Hope it doesnโ€™t sting too much.

I'd definitely look into getting an anti-tetanus jab.

Oh how dreadful!!! I had a small dog jump up at me, a couple of weeks ago, and scratch right down through my leggings and the side of my calf with both front claws and the owner never so much as acknowledged me or called the dog away!! But that looks nasty and as everyone else said probably needs a tetanus shot

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply tolimberlou

Thanks limberlou, no tetanus jab required, leggings are a write off, unless my friend can convert them to shorts.

cheekychipmunks profile image

Oh my word Jell, that looks really nasty. Was the owner with the dog? Thatโ€™s inexcusable. ๐Ÿ˜ก I hope youโ€™re ok?

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply tocheekychipmunks

No, it was a riding school yard, quite a few people in it, they said they didn't think it was a biter๐Ÿ˜ฌ. I'll be ok thanks, might have to lay off running for a couple of days, it's more bruised now than when I came home, feels a bit tender .

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate10

Poor you. I would get a tetanus jab, as dogs' mouths are not clean! Hope you had a word with the owner. I have had several dogs and they have never bitten anyone or anything! Some owners are clueless.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toRoxdog

Thanks Roxdog, no tetanus required, just antibiotics. I think the police are going to speak to the owner. X

Birdlady64 profile image

That looks nasty! I hope you are OK. You did clean that up properly didn't you? This sort of thing makes my blood boil. Irresponsible owners who can't control their dogs.

Quite frankly an apology isn't really sufficient. If it has bitten you it can, and most probably will, bite somebody else. Next time it could be an older person, or someone a bit unsteady on their feet - or worse a small child.

I would seriously consider reporting the owner to the police

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toBirdlady64

I have, I'm also on a 1 week course of antibiotics, plus they've done a U turn on the tetanus status, due to the fact the dog was in a rural setting, so I am booked in for a booster tomorrow. The police man strongly feels this should progress to a prosecution with sanctions. My leg looks somewhat worse now, he told me it was worse than he was expecting ๐Ÿ˜ฌ.

Thank you.

Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply tolexi6

Thanks lexi, I think I'll have to have a few days off running, I'm limping slightly. May look at some replacement leggings, as you know I have some difficulties resisting a new pair...

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toJell6

I understand completely the difficulty in resisting new leggings, ๐Ÿ˜‚ and a few days rest from running will give you chance to read what bargains are to be had from Sturdy, Tikaboo, Lululemon ..............

Cmoi profile image
CmoiGraduate10

Oh Jell6 , that's terrible. I'm a dog-owner myself and I'd be horrified if ours did anything like that. At the very least I'd be apologising profusely and offering to buy you new leggings. I'm pleased you've reported it, as the circumstances you describe, and the severity of the bite itself, are pretty concerning. Hope your injury heals soon.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toCmoi

Thank you!. My husband feels that the owner should at least pay for my leggings and antibiotics, 2 different antibiotics so double cost. That total comes to just under ยฃ55!I have to update the police in a day or two, but my main concern is that the road should be a safe place to run on.

SaskAlliecat profile image

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toLifluf

I think the police will ensure that she does. It is sore, but no signs of infection thankfully. Tetanus injection later today!

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10โ€ข in reply toJell6

Glad the police were informed. Once could be an accident but twice is something else and could be even worse than your wound. Hope your leg gets better soon.

Jell6 profile image
Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toLifluf

Thanks, the police officer said it's a criminal offence and often when there are more serious attacks it's discovered that there have been previous unreported incidents, so yes, I'm glad that I took the advice from Irishprincess

Oh! I am so sorry to see and read this. Get well soon and I do hope that the police involvement goes well. I wonder what the owner will say. It must really hurt, I expect that you let out a very loud yell. I assume that you weren't running at the stables, just doing whatever folk do at stables. Ouch, that looks awful Jell, sorry youโ€™ve had to endure this. Hopefully the owner does the right thing re leggings, antiBs ยฃยฃ etc.

Thereโ€™s an extremely angry Alsatian behind a (flimsy) gate on one of my run routes. If I ever saw the owners Iโ€™d give them a piece of my mind. Itโ€™s no way for a dog to behave.

Hope it doesnโ€™t put you off your route and that it heals quickly ๐Ÿ’•

Jell6Graduate10โ€ข in reply toacountrycabbage

Thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š, I agree you should feel confident that the dogs are securely on their premises. No I don't think it will put me off my route, I'll probably walk it today then try to put it to the back of my mind, like I did with the bull!
