I haven't run since the Speed Challenge on Tuesday. I have a few days off work and really wanted to run on Thursday as I had more time, but it was pouring down all day.
Yesterday was a travel day. I managed to get a last minute booking to stay at one of the apartments in Rosemoor House, inside the RHS garden at Rosemoor. It makes up for the week away that was cancelled due to Lockdown 2.0. It's lovely here. You get unlimited access to the garden and last night was the Glow walk. The illuminations were beautiful.
I've had a week of really bad sleep, drank very little water yesterday, had one or three glasses of wine ๐ท with a and fish and chip supper so knew I wouldn't be on top of my game this morning. But I simply had to go for a run around the garden here first thing today- an opportunity not be missed!
Leaving Mr B in bed, I donned T-shirt, long sleeved top, tights, buff, gloves and off I went. No music or NRC this morning, It just didn't seem appropriate.
I did a few loops around the Upper and Lower Woodland walk. ๐ณ I forgot how hilly North Devon is!. Goodness me this slow trot out feels tough! The lack of sleep and yesterdays excess is really having an effect! ๐ซ I do loop around the arboretum ๐ด๐๐ฒ and then through the tunnel under the road and down to the Lake, where I paused briefly. On previous visits we've seen Kingfisher here, and there are supposed to be otters ๐ฆฆsometimes visiting from the nearby River Torridge, but nothing this morning. On to the vegetable garden ๐๐ฅ๐ฅwhere I loop around the paths between the vegetable beds, and then back to the Lake for another quick check. Again nothing. Ah well!
Back through the tunnel and up towards Rosemoor House. I do my cool down walk through the gardens at the back of the house ๐กand my stretches on the edge of the woods where I started out.
In the end it was a nice slow 4.3km trip out in truly unique surroundings. What's not to like?
Back indoors I put the kettle on, fresh coffee in the cafetiere and go get Mr B out of bed.
Breakfast of salted caramel and crystallised ginger granola followed by toast and blackcurrant jam. No - not a proper runners breakfast - but it was a holiday breakfast!๐
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone! And happy running - wherever you are! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
The photo shows last nights Glow walk, the view at the start of the woodland behind Rosemoor House, and - of course - my route around the garden,

Thatโs so pretty and looks like a big run so was surprised to read itโs only 4.3 ( did I just say only when referring to almost 5k run! ๐คทโโ๏ธ ๐ Well done! ๐๐๐
Only 4.3k - ha ha! But yes I did think that myself. It felt a lot further ๐ฅตToday was just about getting a run in at this place. It would have been awesome to have run a 5k PB here but realistically that was never going to be on the cards.
What a fabulous place to have a run Birdlady! My neighbour went to the glow walk at RHS Wisley a few days ago and it looked gorgeous! Your breakfast sounds just what was needed - youโre โon holidayโ arenโt you so why not treat yourself !
Ha ha! I'm not sure my legs liked it much this morning though. ๐
Mr B and I have stayed here several times before and its wonderful being able to walk around the garden when Joe Public isn't here. But of course I have never run here before.
Wonderful, lucky you!We visited Rhs Rosemoor in September, it was very quiet, we were almost the only ones there. We loved it, so much to take in and enjoy. I bet the Glow walk was amazing too.
We are going to the one at Rhs Wisley on Monday.
Oh, and Well done on your special run too! ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐xxx
Thatโs so lovely, a holiday which is a bonus this year and what a beautiful place for a run, photos are beautiful to see and breakfast delicious, enjoy the rest of your time there
Thank you. It is a special place and a privilege to be able to stay inside the garden and walk round when nobody else is here.I'm hoping to run again before we leave on Monday but let's see. At least I did it when I had the opportunity
What a fab place it sounds, a really great place to have a run. Ironically fish, chips, red wine. - ditto. Same for me and a 50 min run this morning ๐ฑ
What a lovely place to run! A break away sounds wonderful right now and you got to run as well, in spite of sleepless nights. Well done for making the effort! ๐๐
Thanks Julia.I think a break is just what I needed right now. Stress levels have definitely fallen.
It's wonderful here and you get to enjoy the garden when nobody else is around. We swan about and pretend it's all ours and get very upset if we see any guests from the other two apartments walking around.
What a great place to run I am a bit jealous. I had considered going down to Wisley a few weeks ago to do a run there but life got in the way. I am going to the glow walk there next week but wonโt be running. I agree a holiday run is a great thing, a good way to have a look around new places! Anyway hope you get another run in, enjoy.
So pleased you had a fab run at Rosemoor, we live very close to it. Yes, North Devon running is VERY hilly! We are moving to Norfolk in January....looking forward to FLAT runs!! Happy running wherever ๐
Hyde hall is great my mum and I met there after we were allowed to meet after lockdown 1 as it is between us both. I love it. Think I might take her to Rosemoor next year for a treat.
What a lovely run and scenery! Although your pre-run prep wasn't what you would normally have, it sounds like you really enjoyed it and you're on holiday so I think it's definitely allowed ๐. Enjoy!
ThanksI did enjoy running here although the prep wasn't ideal, not was the run itself. But I managed to get a run done in an amazing special place. So it's a win in my eyes
