Run Round RHS Rosemoor

I haven't run since the Speed Challenge on Tuesday. I have a few days off work and really wanted to run on Thursday as I had more time, but it was pouring down all day.

Yesterday was a travel day. I managed to get a last minute booking to stay at one of the apartments in Rosemoor House, inside the RHS garden at Rosemoor. It makes up for the week away that was cancelled due to Lockdown 2.0. It's lovely here. You get unlimited access to the garden and last night was the Glow walk. The illuminations were beautiful.

I've had a week of really bad sleep, drank very little water yesterday, had one or three glasses of wine ๐Ÿท with a and fish and chip supper so knew I wouldn't be on top of my game this morning. But I simply had to go for a run around the garden here first thing today- an opportunity not be missed!

Leaving Mr B in bed, I donned T-shirt, long sleeved top, tights, buff, gloves and off I went. No music or NRC this morning, It just didn't seem appropriate.

I did a few loops around the Upper and Lower Woodland walk. ๐ŸŒณ I forgot how hilly North Devon is!. Goodness me this slow trot out feels tough! The lack of sleep and yesterdays excess is really having an effect! ๐Ÿ˜ซ I do loop around the arboretum ๐ŸŒด๐ŸŽ‹๐ŸŒฒ and then through the tunnel under the road and down to the Lake, where I paused briefly. On previous visits we've seen Kingfisher here, and there are supposed to be otters ๐Ÿฆฆsometimes visiting from the nearby River Torridge, but nothing this morning. On to the vegetable garden ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ”where I loop around the paths between the vegetable beds, and then back to the Lake for another quick check. Again nothing. Ah well!

Back through the tunnel and up towards Rosemoor House. I do my cool down walk through the gardens at the back of the house ๐Ÿกand my stretches on the edge of the woods where I started out.

In the end it was a nice slow 4.3km trip out in truly unique surroundings. What's not to like?

Back indoors I put the kettle on, fresh coffee in the cafetiere and go get Mr B out of bed.

Breakfast of salted caramel and crystallised ginger granola followed by toast and blackcurrant jam. No - not a proper runners breakfast - but it was a holiday breakfast!๐Ÿ˜‹

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone! And happy running - wherever you are! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

The photo shows last nights Glow walk, the view at the start of the woodland behind Rosemoor House, and - of course - my route around the garden,

Thatโ€™s so pretty and looks like a big run so was surprised to read itโ€™s only 4.3 ( did I just say only when referring to almost 5k run! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ™ˆ Well done! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Toast and blackcurrant jam ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘Œ yummy!

Only 4.3k - ha ha! But yes I did think that myself. It felt a lot further ๐ŸฅตToday was just about getting a run in at this place. It would have been awesome to have run a 5k PB here but realistically that was never going to be on the cards.

The jam was good btw ๐Ÿ˜‹

It looks a special place indeed ๐Ÿ‘Œ and I have Jam envy ๐Ÿ™ˆ

What a fabulous place to have a run Birdlady! My neighbour went to the glow walk at RHS Wisley a few days ago and it looked gorgeous! Your breakfast sounds just what was needed - youโ€™re โ€˜on holidayโ€™ arenโ€™t you so why not treat yourself !

Yes the breakfast went down a treat thank you.I'm glad I made the effort to go out this morning and run here.

There is the other end of the garden to do as well if I have time before leaving on Monday ๐Ÿ™‚

Ooh you HAVE found a nice place to run ! I like the pre run diet of fish and chips and wine ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Ha ha! I'm not sure my legs liked it much this morning though. ๐Ÿ˜

Mr B and I have stayed here several times before and its wonderful being able to walk around the garden when Joe Public isn't here. But of course I have never run here before.

Wonderful, lucky you!We visited Rhs Rosemoor in September, it was very quiet, we were almost the only ones there. We loved it, so much to take in and enjoy. I bet the Glow walk was amazing too.

We are going to the one at Rhs Wisley on Monday.

Oh, and Well done on your special run too! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜xxx

Thank youWe had originally booked to come here in April which we deferred to next year. Mr B and I try to come once a year.

Glow was very pretty but busy - lots of families with young children enjoying the lights.

Wisley is wonderful but a trek across the m25 for us. Have a wonderful time at Glow there

Im hoping to get another run in here before we leave on Monday. It's a special place

Thank you. It is a special place and a privilege to be able to stay inside the garden and walk round when nobody else is here.I'm hoping to run again before we leave on Monday but let's see. At least I did it when I had the opportunity

Holiday runs rock! It's awesome to run somewhere new.Mr B gets a lie in while I indulge.

I got a few raised eyebrows the first time but he just accepts it as part of my life now.

What a fab place it sounds, a really great place to have a run. Ironically fish, chips, red wine. - ditto. Same for me and a 50 min run this morning ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Well what else does one have on a Friday night? ๐Ÿ˜This is such a wonderful place - but a bit of a trek for you.

To be able to run around the garden when nobody else is around was pretty cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž

That sounds a great weekend break Birdlady, and it must be lovely to have the run of the place when itโ€™s closed to everyone else. Enjoy!

What a lovely place to run! A break away sounds wonderful right now and you got to run as well, in spite of sleepless nights. Well done for making the effort! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks Julia.I think a break is just what I needed right now. Stress levels have definitely fallen.

It's wonderful here and you get to enjoy the garden when nobody else is around. We swan about and pretend it's all ours and get very upset if we see any guests from the other two apartments walking around.

To run here as well was a privilege

What a great place to run I am a bit jealous. I had considered going down to Wisley a few weeks ago to do a run there but life got in the way. I am going to the glow walk there next week but wonโ€™t be running. I agree a holiday run is a great thing, a good way to have a look around new places! Anyway hope you get another run in, enjoy.

Enjoy Glow.Wisley is nice but a bit of a trek around the m25. We are close to Hyde Hall so go there often.

The beauty of staying here is you get to enjoy the garden when nobody else is around. That's pretty special.

Happy running!

So pleased you had a fab run at Rosemoor, we live very close to it. Yes, North Devon running is VERY hilly! We are moving to Norfolk in January....looking forward to FLAT runs!! Happy running wherever ๐Ÿ˜€

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply to Dobbydoodah

Well that will be totally different!I'll watch out for the raft of PBs then once you start running on the flat!๐Ÿ˜

We love North Devon and usually come 2 or 3 times a year. A good friend of mine lives in Ilfracombe but he doesn't run๐Ÿ˜‚

Hyde hall is great my mum and I met there after we were allowed to meet after lockdown 1 as it is between us both. I love it. Think I might take her to Rosemoor next year for a treat.

What a lovely run and scenery! Although your pre-run prep wasn't what you would normally have, it sounds like you really enjoyed it and you're on holiday so I think it's definitely allowed ๐Ÿ˜. Enjoy!

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate10 in reply to Pnegirl

ThanksI did enjoy running here although the prep wasn't ideal, not was the run itself. But I managed to get a run done in an amazing special place. So it's a win in my eyes
