My London Vitality 10,000 Run, was all planned for tomorrow, even booked the day off to recover afterwards....BUT 4:30am this morning I woke up and felt wide awake, actually felt really good, so decided to get out there and go for it ! I think my subconscious realised Tuesday is my normal day to go out running. Couldn’t find any safety pins 🧷 of course so ended up sellotaping my number on and hoping for the best 🤞
Laced up the Brooks and got out there, weather perfect, nice and cool, Nike 10k Run Started, shuffled the playlist and set off.....Coach Bennett describing the start of the run as like lighting a fire 🔥 nurture it gently and build it up gradually, liked that analogy. I felt nice and calm today and breathing was slower and more controlled.
Reached the park, the site of so many 5k personal best attempts and knew I’d reached half way, ran passed the bench I’d often sat on to recover....onwards and upwards, not slowing or feeling tired today... heading for home....This Is Me from The Greatest Showman blasting in my ears....still not watched that film yet, love that song though. Passed the speed camera, I’m sure it just flashed.....maybe not 😜...2k left, then 1k left then before I knew it 200 metres, picked up the pace and finished with a sprint....Coach Bennett telling me I’d completed the run....I looked at my time and realised is shaved 3 minutes 26 seconds off my previous 10k PB 😁 absolutely thrilled to do that on my first ever Virtual Running Challenge.
Home then straight back out to walk the dog, who fancied running today too 🥵 but managed to run with him for part of the way, so he was happy.
Showered and off to work....sat at my desk feeling very pleased with myself for the rest of the day...,still loving this running malarkey 👍🏃♂️

Thank you JoggingT 😊 nice to have a run when everything goes well, especially when it’s your first event. Are you still running? Haven’t seen you for a while.
Maybe an early morning run, it’s lighter in the mornings now. Sorry to hear you’ve lost your mojo, nice to see you’re still on the forum though....hopefully you’ll find it again soon.
Wow, amazing! Well done to you. You make it sound so easy - and with a PB, too! 👏👏👏👍 And you went out again afterwards with the dog!
Great that you decided to run a day earlier than planned because you felt good; it was obviously the right decision. No wonder you were pleased with yourself!
Now - what are you going to do with that day off that you booked to recover? 😂
Brilliant run Couchphoenix ! Well done on your Virtual Vitality 10000 and a cracking new PB too!👏👏😀💪 No wonder you felt chuffed with yourself at work today too - enjoy the bling when it arrives!😀🏅👍
Thank You SandraJ39, I’ve just uploaded my evidence to the event organisers and will look forward to receiving my medal 🏅 and tee shirt 👕 my first bit of running bling 😁
Thank you TT60 my red arrows running buddy 😊 I’m having a nice glass of fizz as we speak......and as you say a I’ve earned a medal too 🏅Tomorrow will be a rest day to recover 🛌 then back out Friday.....what next I wonder 🤔
Brilliant, well done - I went on Saturday because it felt right, despite an ominous forecast, which proved to be a light drizzle! I took Coach Bennett on mine too, that spark analogy was really helpful!
Thank You Ethelbert 😊 I agree Coach Bennett is good company on these runs I find, and he makes them so much more enjoyable. Sometimes when it feels right, you’ve just got to get out there and go for it 👍🏃♂️
Thank You Mum22boys 😊 I did really enjoy it and it’s a good confidence booster when you get a run like that. I’m still learning and still improving. I’m learning to relax more, which is improving my breathing and stamina 👍🏃♂️
Thank You WillowandSola 😊it wasn’t the plan but maybe it helped that it was unexpected and I didn’t overthink it, who knows, I did enjoy it though 👍🏃♂️
Thanks Cheekychipmunks, 😊 as I was getting to the end of the run I still felt good and I knew my pace had been consistent throughout so I was thinking to myself, this could be faster than my previous one. I really went for it when he started counting me down in metres and was thrilled with that time 😁
Thanks Blackberrypie 😊first of many I hope, you’re right it’s a great buzz and the thought that you’re in a race albeit virtual definitely gives you that extra boost 🏅🏃♂️
Brilliant- well done! I had Coach Bennett for mine on Saturday as well & I think he helped a lot. Looking forward to the bling as well 🏅😄. Glad I got it done though because I think the weather here this weekend is going to be 💩
Thank You 😊 That’s good to hear, well done to you too PandaCory, I think it helps listening to him, he’s very encouraging and inspiring....plus he’s company when you’re out there on your own. Weather was perfect yesterday....but as you say, it’s set to change so good job we’ve got it done. Like you I’m looking forward to my bling too 👕🏅👀
Brilliant !! Wow all that plus dog walk AND sitting at desk working all day ?!?! 0430 start ?!! Makes me exhausted reading it 🙃 !! Great run !! - did my first 10K myself on Sunday and itching to get back out there myself (had a couple of rest days). Hope you’re still taking the day off today !
Thank You Juliet202 😊I felt ok throughout the day....I think the buzz of having done it kept me going, but I was exhausted when I got in from work so had an hour 🛌 when I got home.....definitely a rest day today, although I’ve just taken the dog out for a walk. Congratulations to you on completing your first 10k, 👏🏻👏🏻🥳🥳that’s brilliant, it’s gives you such a sense of achievement...you’ll have to enter a virtual race next.....start collecting the medals 🏅🏃♀️🏃♂️
Actually my first 10k was the Vitality 10k !! It was great fun doing it on Sunday - came across a group of 3 women wearing the Vitality bibs going clockwise round the route that i was doing anti-clockwise, so we kept passing each other & waved ! All in the pouring rain ! My next challenge is the Pennine Way (End to End) - just to keep up putting in the miles over the winter months - I'm behind already and only 1 week in the 5 month challenge ! Enjoy your day !!
Sorry I’ve only just realised I missed your reply. Your first 10k was the Vitality 10k ! That’s great so you’ll get a nice shiny medal and tee shirt too 😁 ......3 runners in the same race heading in the opposite direction, what are the chances 😂 .....Good Luck with your Penine Way Challenge I’m sure you’ll soon catch up 👍🏃♀️
Thank You acountrycabbage 😊 it certainly was quite a run....I liked that analogy, I imagined this little tiny fire and how you’ve got to nurture it and build it up gradually....seemed to help visualising that somehow. It wasn’t too cold yesterday, it was quite comfortable when I went out 👍🏃♂️
Oh....now you’ve told me that, I’ve just found them in the bottom of the envelope!!!! 😂😂😂 you can tell I’m new to all this....how funny 😂 thanks for letting me know! I was pleased with my new PB...definitely a rest day today.
🤣 I’m no expert!! I hope you’re still enjoying the glow - I am and I ran on Sunday! Off for a short one soon 🤞🏻 as it’ll be the first run with a plaster on my heel.
Thank You Elde5, 😊I’m an early morning runner, the air is so much fresher at that time of day and the streets belong to you.....I agree it’s a great feeling 😁
I love that you just decided to "go for it" at 4:30 in the morning. And on a work day too!! And managed to take the dog for a run afterwards - or did he take you? 😉
I just woke up for some reason and felt wide awake....which definitely isn’t me ! I’d planned on going out today, and as for walking the dog, yes you’re spot on he was pulling me along at that stage 😂
Thank You CazzaW 😊I managed to find the energy from somewhere. It’s a great song to run too 🎵 look out cos here I come🎵 🏃♂️This is me! 😂must get around to watching it sometime 👍
