Magic Plan - Week 1 complete

Very happy to have officially completed week 1 - even though I did manage to misread the plan and did 6K instead of 5.5! Oh well, will pay more attention next week and definitely have no excuses not to do it now.

Still a long way to go, but I really get such a kick from the fact that at the start of lockdown I was 10KG heavier and couldn't run without complaining for more than a few minutes. Now I'm actually excited about pushing on to new distances, and the weight is still coming off with healthy eating too and I'm starting to feel the mental health and mindset difference as well.

--------------------------------

W1R1 - 5.26KM - 36:11 (6.52 avg pace)

Counted a C25K consolidation run I did on Monday as my W1R1 on the basis I'd already done the crime so might as well get the time! Decided it would give me a mental kickstart and meant that I can keep going with my running pattern and complete weeks of the programme in line with normal calendar weeks which I like.

W1R2 - 2.53KM - 16:40 (6:40 avg pace)

Found the short run a little strange, I'm used to going uphill to start, but needed to switch my route to do a short loop which meant I started downhill and finished uphill. Think I can push myself a little more pace wise on these short ones.

W1R3 - 6.12KM - 43:21 (7:05 avg pace)

Could feel my body resist a bit on today's long run as soon as I got to the point I'd normally turn around at, but having completed C25K and consolidation runs I knew it was all in my mind and powered through.

Am deliberately trying to do the long runs as slow, easy pace - but still happy that my fitness (aided by weight loss) means this 6K was still quicker than the first 5K I ever ran at the end of the summer.

Well done, it’s good to be following a plan again isn’t it? we did run 1 of week 2 yesterday on the Magic plan and as it was my weekend off decided to run the long run of 6k

Absolutely! And having done C25K I've got much more of an understanding that the plan will work and I'm capable of building it up if I just take it slowly and one run at a time.

Yes, knowing a plan will work gives us the confidence we need to follow it

Well done FF. It's so encouraging to see yourself improving week by week. I started C25K in May, graduated in July and my goal now is to make 10k by Christmas! Before Lockdown I'd never run 60secs!
